Role Description The Litigation Lawyer will manage a range of civil litigation files from intake through resolution, including drafting pleadings, motions, and affidavits, and preparing correspondence and legal opinions. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting legal research, reviewing and analyzing evidence and disclosure, preparing for and attending examinations, mediations, pre-trials, and court appearances, and negotiating settlements where appropriate. The role also involves meeting with clients, assessing legal issues and strategy, maintaining organized and accurate file records, and collaborating with other team members to ensure timely progress of matters. This is a contract, on-site role based in Mississauga, ON, requiring regular attendance at the office and local courts. Qualifications Strong litigation skills, including drafting pleadings and motions, conducting legal research, and managing civil files from commencement to resolution. Proficiency in client-facing work, including interviewing clients, explaining legal options, and maintaining clear, professional communication throughout the file. Experience in advocacy and dispute resolution, such as appearing in court, attending mediations and negotiations, and preparing for hearings and trials. Solid organizational and time-management abilities, including file management, deadline tracking, and prioritizing multiple matters effectively. Licensed to practice law and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (or eligibility to be licensed in Ontario). 1–3 years or more of litigation experience in civil or commercial matters; experience in real estate or estates litigation is an asset. Commitment to ethical practice, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an on-site environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency with standard law office and legal research software.
