Our client, a leading supplier for the Oil & Gas/Power Generation industry, is looking for a Mechanical Designer to join their team on a long term basis in the Mississauga/Oakville area Job Title: Mechanical Designer Job Description The Mechanical Designer develops detailed 3D models and complete design packages for mechanical parts, assemblies, skid-mounted systems, and pressure vessels using modern CAD tools. This role ensures designs meet customer specifications, engineering codes, and manufacturing requirements while supporting cross-functional teams throughout fabrication, assembly, testing, and quality assurance. The Mechanical Designer also drives design optimization and continuous improvement while maintaining rigorous document control and adherence to established quality procedures. Responsibilities Develop detailed 3D models of mechanical parts, assemblies, and skid-mounted systems using CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor, ensuring accurate dimensions and tolerances. Apply parametric design principles to create flexible, easily modifiable models that can be quickly adapted to meet customer specifications and design changes while maintaining manufacturability and performance optimization. Review technical specifications and prepare complete design packages, including vendor document lists, design drawings, design reports, engineering procedures, welding procedures, and other technical documentation. Review and interpret project specifications, engineering codes, and standards to ensure compliance during all phases of the design and manufacturing process. Prepare bills of materials (BOMs), specification sheets, and detailed manufacturing drawings to support production and procurement. Prepare and/or review pressure vessel design reports and other required engineering calculations to ensure safe and compliant designs. Provide engineering and technical support to internal and external stakeholders in a timely and professional manner. Collaborate closely with production, welding, and quality assurance teams to ensure designs are accurately implemented and meet quality and safety standards. Participate in design review meetings and provide feedback between production and engineering to improve manufacturability and reduce rework. Manage engineering changes, drawing revisions, and document control to maintain accurate and up-to-date design records. Support fabrication, assembly, testing, and quality teams in resolving design-related issues and nonconformances. Review vendor drawings and technical documentation to verify compliance with project requirements, specifications, and applicable standards. Drive design optimization, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Coordinate with electrical, controls, process, and manufacturing teams to support integrated system designs and ensure proper interfaces between disciplines. Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and design reviews for junior designers and drafters to uphold design quality and consistency. Follow all established quality procedures and standards throughout the design and documentation process. Maintain computer data files and document records, ensuring proper organization, version control, and accessibility of design information. Must Have Proven experience in mechanical design of industrial equipment, specifically pressure vessels or tanks Proficiency in 3D CAD software Experience using AutoCAD or similar CAD tools for detailed drawings and layouts. Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including tolerances, weldments, and fabrication details. Knowledge of material properties, welding techniques, and fabrication processes for pressure vessels and related equipment. Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME BPVC), particularly Section VIII Division 1. Ability to prepare and review design packages, including drawings, reports, procedures, and bills of materials. Work Environment The role operates in an engineering-focused environment that combines office-based design work with regular interaction with fabrication, welding, and testing areas. You will primarily work with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD to develop detailed models, drawings, and design packages for industrial equipment, including pressure vessels, electric process heaters, and skid-mounted systems. Collaboration with electrical, controls, process, manufacturing, production, welding, and quality assurance teams is a routine part of the workday, requiring clear communication and coordinated problem-solving. The position involves adherence to established quality procedures, engineering standards, and document control practices, with significant use of computer systems for data management and design record maintenance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Oakville, ON. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $55.00/hr.
