Résumé du poste
Safety & Mission Assurance Engineer – Software and Electromechanical Systems Job Description This role focuses on ensuring the safety and reliability of complex electromechanical systems with significant software components used in advanced space robotics and related applications. You will lead safety and hazard assessments, collaborate closely with design, systems engineering, and software teams, and participate in formal safety reviews with major space agencies. The position combines hands-on technical analysis with leadership and mentorship responsibilities, contributing directly to the success of cutting-edge missions in space and advanced robotics on Earth. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive safety and hazard assessments and analyses on projects involving complex electromechanical systems with significant software components. Work closely with design, systems engineering, and software teams to ensure safety-related requirements and inputs are incorporated into system and software designs. Participate in external safety reviews and technical interchange meetings with space agencies and external partners, including formal reviews with organizations such as the Canadian Space Agency and NASA. Lead and mentor junior Safety & Mission Assurance personnel, providing guidance, technical oversight, and support in safety analysis methodologies and best practices. Perform additional safety and reliability tasks such as Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), contributing to Hazard Reports, System Safety Analysis Reports, and other safety documentation. Own and manage safety project schedules, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring timely completion and alignment with overall project objectives. Identify and implement process improvements to increase quality, productivity, efficiency, and cost savings in safety and mission assurance activities. Conduct hazard and safety analysis focused on software, including software failure modes and effects analysis and system safety assessments to determine how software bugs or errors could trigger physical hazards. Review software design and architecture to verify that safety constraints and fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR) rules are properly implemented. Analyze software redundancy, fault tolerance, and safety-critical code to confirm that safety objectives are met and risks are mitigated. Collaborate directly with flight software developers, systems engineers, and verification teams to ensure safety inputs are translated into code and rigorously tested. Analyze software system hazards and related artifacts to identify safety-critical elements and potential failure points. Evaluate and analyze FMEAs and perform software safety analysis to understand how specific software components can cause safety-critical hazards. Contribute to continuous integration and build automation practices to support reliable development and testing of safety-critical, real-time embedded systems and higher-level software solutions. Essential Skills Demonstrated experience performing analysis of software system hazards and safety-related artifacts. Strong background in software safety and functional safety for safety-critical systems. Experience analyzing FMEAs and performing software safety analysis, including Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA). Ability to understand and identify which parts of software can cause safety-critical hazards and how they interact with hardware and system behavior. Proficiency in analyzing redundancy, fault tolerance, and safety-critical code in embedded and real-time environments. Experience with safety-critical, real-time embedded systems and firmware. Knowledge of hardware description languages such as VHDL in the context of safety-critical systems. Familiarity with continuous integration and build automation practices for software development. Experience working with flight or mission-critical software and systems engineering teams. Ability to review software design and architecture to ensure implementation of safety constraints and FDIR (fault detection, isolation, and recovery) rules. Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with software developers, systems engineers, and verification teams. Excellent communication skills for participation in formal safety reviews and technical meetings with external partners and agencies. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience with military, NASA, or European Space Agency software and software product assurance standards. Experience in the development and/or testing of safety-critical, real-time software solutions. Experience with continuous integration and build automation both at the embedded level and at higher-level environments such as Windows-based platforms. Exposure to technologies such as C#, .NET, and cloud-based environments including AWS. background in space robotics, satellite servicing, or planetary mission systems is an asset. Experience in advanced robotics applications for nuclear, medical, industrial, or mining sectors is beneficial. Strong interest in contributing to human spaceflight and advanced robotics missions, including systems for lunar gateway and space stations orbiting the Moon. Work Environment The role is based in a collaborative, collegial engineering environment focused on advanced space robotics and high-reliability systems. Teams work closely together and are open to peer review and knowledge sharing, creating a supportive atmosphere for solving complex safety and mission assurance challenges.
