As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025, Aecon will support the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site. Reporting to the Construction Manager, this Superintendent will support the Earthworks scope of the Darlington New Nuclear Project. During the readiness phase, the Superintendent will assist with construction planning, reviews, and the development of fit-for-purpose tools. In execution, they will be responsible for the supervision, coordination and scheduling of construction activities for multiple scopes of work in compliance with the contract and the job cost estimate and ensure all the work is completed safely to acceptable standards of quality and workmanship. What You'll Do Here: Excavation of utility trenches, foundations – large-scale removal of topsoil and unsuitable material, including water management (monitoring dewatering -pumping…). Construction of embankments, MSE walls, reinforced backfill Subgrade preparations – grading, levelling, and compacting native soil. Granular base installations (sub-base) – placing and compacting crushed stone or gravel. Spoil removal and transportation. Good knowledge of the needed equipment and required operator skills; The required manpower; The trench/embankment stability applicable rules and standards; All related applicable EHS codes and standards in Ontario and on the DNNP project; The daily, weekly and monthly planning and reporting of the works. Accountable for work planning and execution on the project including methods of construction, manpower levels, materials, tools & equipment, rentals and work schedules. Ensure alignment and partnering with the alliance partners. Monitor and review Plans/Schedules and identify risks and issues Utilize project master schedule to create detailed look ahead schedules. Responsibility for the implementation and enforcement of safety, quality and human performance programs Ensure that company policies and project procedures are being adhered to and followed by project personnel Monitor and manage risks, develop recovery strategies when project schedule or budget is in jeopardy. Assume responsibility for productivity of direct hire trade labour and subcontractors, efficient use of materials and tools & equipment and contractual performance of the project Understanding and support of applicable trade agreements. Application of home company discipline policies and appropriate escalation of performance concerns to Site Services Manager. Ensure trades personnel complete all necessary training in areas of safety, quality assurance, technical qualifications, equipment operation and owner-specified requirements. Review and provide support in the creation of Construction Work Packages Ensure project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications, Construction Work Packages and project schedule and budget Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, etc. Ensure project is constructed in accordance with QA Programs and project quality Other duties as required or assigned Perform regular field tours to check work progress and meet with project site personnel. Carry out site safety inspections. Participate in company-wide initiatives aimed at overall continuous improvement Review and approve timesheets, expense reports, vacation requests, and training requests, within Limits of Authority. Responsible for performance management of all direct-report employees, including: coaching/mentoring, assistance with career planning and training, preparation of yearly and mid-year performance reviews Ensure all project staff and direct reports understand and comply with applicable code of conduct policies (Aecon and customer policy) What You Bring to the Team: Minimum of 7 years Civil/Structural construction and subcontractor supervision experience Knowledge of all aspects of construction such as technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements Must understand how to support a positive Safety Culture. Ability to plan and manage installation sequences, coordinate with engineering to ensure constructability, and communicate updates to project teams and vendors. Experience in managing complex nuclear construction projects Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints and specifications Must have a full appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry Reason for vacancy: Replacement Pay Range: $155,000 - $165,000 Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
