Responsibilities • Able to read / understand construction plans • Responsible for operating heavy equipment at construction sites in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life. • Clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by AFL policies and procedures. • Perform pre-shift inspections, change attachments, lubricate, and refill equipment while performing other site duties as assigned. • Properly reports any mechanical or safety problems with the equipment in accordance with company procedures. • Proactively communicate with foreman, superintendent and coworkers. • Complete required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation as required. • Heavy equipment operated at AFL include, but are not limited to, backhoes, track-hoe, skid steers, etc. • Perform other site duties or functions, consistent with status or vocational ability as may be required from time to time. • Ensure a safe work environment for our people, clients, subcontractors, and the public. • Represent AFL to the public in a manner that is consistent with corporate values and goals. • Lead by example. • Adhere to and promotes the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL. • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. Personal Qualities • Detail oriented – accuracy is required • Independent - ability to work well under limited supervision • Results focused – driven to achieve • Interpersonal skills – ability to work well on a team Qualifications • 1+ year of construction experience • Experience in Utility Construction – ASSET • Ability to understand and work with Utility locates. • Capable of working in all temperatures and climates and in confined spaces • Ability to travel to various site-based projects if required • Proficiency in driving with a loaded trailer an asset.
