Utilismart provides information needed to make informed business decisions about electricity, water, and gas in the SmartGrid marketplace. About The Role Utilismart Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator to join our Information Technology team. Reporting directly to the Manager of IT, the successful candidate will play a critical role in safeguarding and optimizing our internal data assets. This position is essential for supporting the growth and development of our digital platform, ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our databases. The Database Administrator will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust database systems that support our innovative SmartGrid solutions. The role involves strategic planning for database development, managing security protocols, and providing ongoing support to internal teams. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, a proactive approach to database management, and a commitment to continuous learning to keep pace with evolving technologies. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a post-secondary degree or diploma in computer science or a related field. A minimum of three years of professional experience working with SQL and Oracle databases, as well as familiarity with the Solaris operating system and database design, is required. Industry-recognized certifications relevant to database administration, such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, are highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to staying current with emerging technologies and best practices through ongoing professional development, including workshops, training, and industry publications. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively are essential for success in this role. Responsibilities Develop and implement comprehensive data administration policies, standards, and models to ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility across the organization. Lead and coordinate teams of data administrators during the development and deployment of database solutions. Research and document critical data requirements, collection policies, access rules, and security protocols to ensure compliance and data protection. Design, develop, and maintain procedures for network and Internet database access, usage, backup, and recovery to ensure data availability and disaster recovery readiness. Maintain, patch, and secure databases to optimize performance, prevent vulnerabilities, and ensure stability. Calculate optimal values for database parameters, monitor database health, and develop utilities for ongoing health monitoring. Write and optimize scripts for stored procedures, triggers, and other database objects to support application functionality and automation. Conduct research and provide expert advice to other IT professionals regarding data collection, security, and system integration. Maintain comprehensive user manuals, technical documentation, and how-to materials for internal reference and training purposes. Provide Tier I and Tier II support to internal staff, troubleshooting database-related issues promptly and effectively. Support Utilismart’s ISO certification obligations by maintaining required ISMS documentation and ensuring compliance with data security standards.
