Business Continuity Specialist

Your Opportunity: We are seeking a dynamic Business Continuity Specialist (BCS) to join our team as a strategic project lead on complex healthcare resilience initiatives. In this critical role, you will serve as a recognized subject matter expert, leading and coordinating business continuity assignments and initiatives in conjunction with the Agency Directors and based on agency needs; collaborating with a dedicated team of BCM and E/DM risk professionals. You will interact with and provide vital leadership to multi-disciplinary teams across Alberta's health system, including Alberta Health Services (AHS), Provincial Health Agencies (PHAs), such as Acute Care Alberta (ACA), Primary Care Alberta (PCA), Assisted Living Alberta (ALA), and Recovery Alberta (RA) and other Provincial Health Corporations (PHCs). Through consultative guidance and facilitation, you will champion the continuous improvement of business continuity planning to foster provincial organizational resilience. As a BCS, you will provide operational leadership, mentorship, and subject matter expertise within a highly supportive and collaborative environment. This position offers incredible geographic flexibility, allowing you to work from anywhere within Alberta in a remote, hybrid-remote, or onsite setup. Description: As our next Specialist, you’ll be accountable for leading high-impact planning initiatives that bolster BCM capabilities to protect AHS, PHA and relevant PHC risk management objectives. You’ll be establishing adaptive BCM processes, tailoring tools/templates to stay ahead of E/DM industry standards/regulatory compliance. You’ll focus on building/sustaining positive relationships, providing hands-on operational support and updates to our diverse partner network. Your day-to-day will involve active coordination with internal/external stakeholders to ensure a value-added planning approach. During incidents, you’ll provide critical virtual/ physical support to various Strategic Command Network centres. You’ll drive E/DM continuous improvement by facilitating adaptive Business Impact Analysis, Site Risk Analysis, and Departmental Risk Assessments to uncover risks, dependencies, and recovery requirements. Working alongside operational/Agency Leaders, IT, and support services, you’ll help design recovery objectives, build mitigation strategies, and build comprehensive business continuity plans. You’ll evaluate plans for internal/external partners to confirm alignment with healthcare standards and design tailored training and simulation exercises. Ultimately, you’ll champion BCM culture, use SharePoint/MS Teams to implement technology solutions, and deliver projects from initial planning to successful handover. Note: may include travel for onsite research, incident response and extended hours during simulations/active incidents. PHAs, PHCs, AHS interested parties, partners, external working groups. You have or are actively working toward a recognized BCM certification such as an ABCP, CBCP, or equivalent. A minimum of 4 years of experience in a BCM role is required, with at least 3 years focused on carrying out and facilitating core activities like Business Impact Analysis, Risk Analysis, Cost-Benefit Analysis, and Plan Development. You bring a minimum of 3 years of experience in a healthcare or Emergency Management environment, including experience working within an Incident Command System structure. You possess a strong understanding of BCM methodology, operational resilience, and risk-related control frameworks such as ISO, CSA, HSO, and Accreditation Canada. Completion of ICS 100 is strictly required. You bring excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven experience preparing reports and facilitating discussions with local leadership and stakeholders at various levels of the organization. You have strong situational awareness, push back for more clarity/probing (during high-pressure partner sessions, and have passion for avoiding mishaps. Preferred Qualifications: Completion of ICS 200 or higher. Active Professional ISO 22301 Provisional or Implementer certification. Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM). Certification or experience in Prosci Change Management, CBAP, CBDA, process analytics, improvement, and operational mapping. Experience in exercise design or IT Disaster Recovery Planning. A Master's Degree (MBA, MHA, or Emergency Management) is highly desirable.
