As a dedicated member of the Nutrition Food Service (NFS) team, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact by providing nutritious, healthy, high-quality meal service to patients, residents, staff, visitors and the community. This Regular Part Time position is located at the University of Alberta Hospital and will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident and customer experience. Under the general supervision of a NFS Supervisor, you will use your customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to independently to prepare, handle, portion and package food and beverages. Assemble trays in the kitchen and/or serve meals in a dining room setting. Provide patient meal delivery and pick up. Order and put away unit supplies. Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment. Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines. Complete cash handling duties in the retail setting if applicable to role. Complete other food service duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy. Work under pressure in high stress situations. Communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments. Demonstrate critical thinking skills and initiative. Work as an effective, professional team member. Demonstrate a patient first approach as outlined in the AHS Foundational Strategies. Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions. Description: As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas. Classification: Food Service I Union: AUPE GSS Unit and Program: Patient Food Services Primary Location: U of A Hospital Location Details: As Per Location Multi-Site: Not Applicable FTE: 0.40 Posting End Date: 07-AUG-2026 Employee Class: Regular Part Time Date Available: 21-AUG-2026 Hours per Shift: 3.1 Length of Shift in weeks: 3 Shifts per cycle: 15 Shift Pattern: Evenings, Weekends Days Off: As Per Rotation Minimum Salary: $22.05 Maximum Salary: $23.69 Vehicle Requirement: Not Applicable Required Qualifications: Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift. Additional Required Qualifications: Basic knowledge of and experience with computer applications. All new employees must be able to attend a 2-day Patient Food Service New Employee Orientation followed by an onsite orientation shift.
