Your Opportunity: Reporting to the Unit Manager of the Firefighters’ Burns Treatment Unit at the University of Alberta Hospital, the LPN provides site inpatient burn dressing support for adult and pediatric patients. The LPN must be able to work independently, demonstrate strong communication skills, and function effectively as part of an inter professional health care team. This role requires the use of nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and sound decision making to deliver high quality care to patients and their families. Working with multiple specialties, the LPN is responsible for the initial assessment of patients, minor procedure provision and patient teaching. As an LPN, you are an important part of an interdisciplinary team that ensures appropriate patient care in an inpatient setting. The LPN plays a key role in the support of an integrated and holistic approach to the patient's healthcare and health promotion. Strong assessment and critical thinking skills are required as well as the ability to adapt to different situations quickly. The LPN acts as the liaison between the interdisciplinary team and other providers to support the patient. This is a front-line direct patient care position and includes sitting, standing, heavy lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 50 lbs.), and transferring or transporting of supplies, equipment and patients with varying degrees of mobility, including our bariatric population. The LPN mentors, teaches, coaches and acts as a preceptor to students. Must be adaptive, flexible and willing to embrace change in a rapidly expanding program as well as to cross train in all programs within the portfolio. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications: Excels in critical thinking and adapts communication verbal, written, and interpersonal to support patients and families from diverse backgrounds. Proficient in delivering essential patient updates to the most responsible physician while navigating high pressure, rapidly changing clinical environments. Ability to work independently and confidently in adult and pediatric inpatient burn dressing care. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, MS Teams) and experience with electronic medical record systems, including Connect Care. Exhibits effective communication and collaboration to support coordinated care within multidisciplinary teams. Brings advanced wound care expertise, including dressing changes, infection prevention, and management of skin graft and donor sites. Strong assessment abilities with a focus on infection recognition, evaluation of wound healing stages, and adjustment of care plans as needed. Preferred Qualifications: Certified in Level 1 Debridement and Laser Doppler Imaging (LDI) preferred.

Exigences

Candidates must have completed an accredited practical nurse education program and hold active registration with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta. Current BCLS-HCP certification and the ability to perform physical tasks like lifting and transferring patients are also required.
