Your Opportunity: Give Life Alberta is seeking a casual Occupational Therapist to join its interdisciplinary transplant team in Edmonton. This position provides occupational therapy services to adult patients undergoing heart, lung, liver, kidney, kidney-pancreas, and pancreas transplantation. Working across the continuum of care, the Occupational Therapist supports patients before and after transplant in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including the transplant surgery unit (3G2), CVICU, GSICU, and ambulatory transplant clinic at the University of Alberta Hospital. The role focuses on optimizing functional independence, recovery, and quality of life throughout the transplant journey. As a member of the transplant team, the Occupational Therapist collaborates with physicians, surgeons, nurses, coordinators, physiotherapists, therapy assistants, social workers, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to promote functional independence and facilitate recovery. Patients and families are recognized as integral members of the healthcare team. The Occupational Therapist fosters their active participation in care planning, decision-making, and goal setting to ensure services are patient- and family-centered. Occupational therapy services are evidence-informed and grounded in occupational performance and participation. Through comprehensive assessment and intervention, the Occupational Therapist enables patients to engage in meaningful occupations by addressing barriers and building on strengths related to physical health, cognitive function, mental health, and environmental factors. Interventions are developed collaboratively with patients and families and may include functional assessment, individual and group-based treatment, patient and family education, adaptive strategies, equipment prescription, energy conservation and activity management, and discharge planning. Description: As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT). Additional Required Qualifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS-HCP). Recent adult acute care and/or ambulatory occupational therapy experience, including assessment and treatment of medically complex and post-operative patients. Demonstrated competence in functional assessment and intervention, including activities of daily living, activity tolerance, energy conservation, functional cognition, management of chronic and complex health conditions, and adaptive strategies to support safe and independent functioning. Experience assessing adaptive equipment and functional needs, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, and facilitating safe discharge and community reintegration. Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound clinical judgment, and respond appropriately to changes in patient status. Excellent communication, patient and family education, clinical documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience assessing and treating medically complex adults with chronic health conditions across the continuum of care is preferred. Experience supporting recovery following major surgery, significant deconditioning, and/or providing both inpatient and ambulatory occupational therapy services is an asset. Knowledge of the functional impacts of solid organ failure and transplantation is an asset. Experience with Connect Care and completion of Connect Care training are preferred.

Exigences

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy and be registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists. The role requires recent adult acute care experience and proficiency in functional assessment and complex patient management.
