Position Purpose Reporting to the Supervisor, Fleet, this position is responsible for planning and directing the work of the Vehicle staff to ensure safe work practices and procedures are carried out. The incumbent is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining and repairing fleet vehicles, equipment and tools. Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities Coordinates, oversees, and reviews the work of the mechanic staff to ensure a safe working environment. Oversees in-house contractors and distributes and assigns the work and ensures jobs are completed in accordance with corporate requirements. Provides guidance, training and leadership to crew members. Assists in determining that proper equipment and materials are available as required for work assignments. Assists the Fleet Manager in determining specifications for vehicles and equipment purchase. Prepares requisitions for parts to conduct routine maintenance activities on corporate fleet and is responsible for the inventory of fleet related supplies. Provides assistance in establishing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs and schedules for service of corporate fleet and equipment. Performs maintenance on the corporation’s fleet that ensures minimal disruption of work activities. Maintains records on vehicles and schedules maintenance to reduce down time of vehicles. Conducts visual audits of the fleet and advises Fleet Technical Assistant regarding maintenance schedules. Conducts license inspections for safety checks and ensures up-to-date licensing and insurance information is allocated and placed in applicable vehicles. Ensures that garage staff operate equipment and tools in compliance with safe work practices and procedures. Prepares and completes work order documentation, time sheets and various reports as required. Performing safety standards inspections and PMVIC inspections. Participate in on-call duties and emergency call-out as required. Must be an active member and maintain a membership in good standing of the Ontario College of Trades. Responsible for a working knowledge and understanding of and make all efforts reasonable to work in accordance with and ensuring work is done in compliance with the appropriate safety legislation, EUSR rules, Alectra policies and procedures and safe work practices that apply to the work while adhering to the internal responsibility system. Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices using Alectra procedures. The incumbent may be asked to perform other related duties which may be assigned from time to time. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Competencies Education & Specialized Knowledge Requires a minimum of a 3 year community college diploma. Requires valid A/Z Driver’s License. Truck Coach Technician and Automotive Technician certification. Diesel certification. Propane mechanic certificate. Certified overhead crane operator or equivalent experience. Certified forklift operator or equivalent experience. Experience Minimum five (5) years related experience. Skills/Abilities/Competencies Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, coordinate and mentor a team. Demonstrated ability to solve new and/or complex problems. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with coworkers and members of the public to achieve positive outcomes for the company. Demonstrated ability to facilitate the prevention, management and/or resolution of conflicts. Working Conditions Work involves considerable levels of unpleasant conditions or hazards, resulting in moderate discomfort or risk of danger - work is performed predominantly outdoors.
