The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. Job Summary The Student Life Centre is responsible for overseeing the operations and management of the John Deutsch University Centre, Queen's Centre, and the Grey House. It serves and liaises with students, student governments, University administration, building tenants, and the communities within Queen's University to provide a vibrant and dynamic environment through proposing, fostering the development of, and overseeing, programs and services consistent with the mission and long-term plans of the AMS. It is crucial to develop a good relationship with administration and all tenants of the buildings. Competencies Attention to Detail Accountability Communication Cultural Sensitivity Problem Solving Conflict Management Time Management Client/Customer Focus Job Duties Oversee and approve all digital signage and posters and liaise with national media partners Liaise with campus groups (Campus Tours, Orientation Roundtable, Residence Society, etc.) to increase awareness Network with clubs, AMS office/services, SGPS, external groups, university departments, etc., to represent and support diverse communities at Queen's Create and maintain a marketing calendar to ensure consistent advertising throughout the year Have a thorough knowledge of AMS Visual Identity Standards, and ensure all advertisements meet these standards Create promotional materials and graphics for online and physical marketing including rave cards, brochures, posters, and other signage Exhibit a working knowledge of all of the software used in the store regularly, including Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, Canva, Excel, and Word Update and maintain the service website and social media Assist the Head Manager in the development of a strategic plan, budget, mid-year review, and any relevant capital expenditure proposals Complete MOC and MOD shifts Coordinate activities with the Senior Manager by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and delegating work accordingly Participate as an active member on hiring panels to keep the service adequately staffed Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards Monitor employee performance to mitigate disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures and notify Head Manager of any issues that arise Ensure that employees adhere to all health and safety regulations Attend and fully participate in all in person and virtual meetings Maintain consistent communication with all relevant stakeholders, responding to e-mails in a timely manner Ensure all customer complaints are addressed and handled professionally, leaving the customer with a positive resolution Oversee the day-to-day operations, in collaboration with the Head Manager Assist with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed Maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep the store operating to our level of standards, and to set a positive example for your team Accurately monitor, maintain and report inventories, the flow of products, and weekly orders Maintain positive working relationships with relevant suppliers related to all portfolios Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards Complete other duties as assigned Job Requirements Excellent understanding and familiarity with brand-building and brand management Ability to build and sustain relationships with key business partners and other external stakeholders Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management skills to meet deadlines Ability to supervise and motivate a team to achieve and exceed their goals Work Conditions Interaction with employees, management, and the public at large Operation of desktop computer and peripheral Working in an office environment and on location Work in a variety of buildings and spaces operated by the Student Life Centre The AMS is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of age, race, religion, colour, disability, sex, sexual orientation, or national origin.
