Laboratory Assistant

About the Position On-site | Casual As a Lab Assistant, your primary role will be to independently extract client samples for instrument analysis Specific Responsibilities: * Extract soil and water samples into solvent. * Perform duties in accordance with SOP and quality control procedures; * Transfer samples between extraction and analytical sections; * Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; * Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; * Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: * Familiarity with weighing samples required; * Excellent hand eye coordination; * Good organizational skills; * Detail oriented individual with a strong commitment to quality; * Ability to work independently or as a part of the team; * Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues; * Intermediate English communication skills both written and verbal; * Intermediate computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Required Qualifications: * Grade 12 education or equivalent required; * Diploma or Degree in Science preferred; * Minimum of 3 months laboratory experience in analytical chemistry or related field required. Physical Demands: * Ability to lift up to 20lbs; * Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 7.5 hours per day; * Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks. The Lab Assistant is responsible for independently extracting soil and water samples into solvent for instrument analysis. They must ensure all duties follow SOPs, quality control procedures, and established safety regulations.

Candidates require a Grade 12 education and at least 3 months of laboratory experience in analytical chemistry or a related field. A diploma or degree in Science is preferred, along with intermediate computer and communication skills.
