Role Summary: The Mechanical Project Engineer is responsible for preparing the design packages for customer purchased custom wastewater/water treatment solutions. Design and support the engineering and manufacturing of water treatment systems to ensure client specifications, budget and compliance requirements are met. Responsibility: Provide technical leadership on water and wastewater treatment projects, reviewing engineering documents for completeness and compliance. Design and develop custom treatment systems (MBR, RO, softeners, and related equipment) using CAD, ERP, and engineering design tools. Create and maintain P&IDs, ensuring designs meet customer requirements, industry standards, and client specifications. Support procurement, manufacturing, testing, and field startup activities by resolving technical issues and ensuring successful project execution. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including project management, production, purchasing, and engineering, to drive project progress and technical decisions. Provide expertise in pressure vessel design and qualification, prepare technical documentation and operating manuals, and support proposal development as needed. Qualifications: 10+ years of experience in water/wastewater treatment design, with a focus on custom systems (MBR, RO, softeners, pressure vessels). P.Eng Proven experience in design, calculations, and compliance with ASME codes and standards. Skilled in sizing, engineering calculations, and technical specifications for compressors and related process equipment. Proficiency in P&IDs, process flow diagrams, control narratives, and system integration. Experience managing BOMs within ERP systems for engineering and manufacturing. Strong ability to interface directly with clients and suppliers, resolving technical issues and supporting project execution. AutoCAD (for P&IDs), ERP systems, and familiarity with 3D modeling tools (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks) is a plus. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities. Why Join Us? In accordance with our compensation practices, ALTEN is providing the salary range associated with this opportunity. Final compensation will be determined after considering several factors, including professional experience, skill set, educational background, certifications, and geographic market conditions. The current target salary range for this role is $90,000 – $110,000 per year.

The Mechanical Project Engineer designs custom water and wastewater treatment solutions and prepares comprehensive design packages. They provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from P&ID creation to supporting manufacturing and field startup.

Candidates must have over 10 years of experience in water treatment design and hold a P.Eng license. Proficiency in ASME codes, CAD tools, and experience with MBR and RO systems are essential.
