The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC. Position title: Bar Supervisor Department: Pit Pub Reports to: Outlet Manager Supervises: Bartenders, Bussers Employee status: Hourly Hours per week: Varies based on business needs Compensation: $21.85 per hour This position is included under the MoveUP 378 Bargaining Unit. This position is in-person. About the AMS: The Alma Mater Society (AMS), established as a formal constitution of UBC’s student organization in 1915, is UBC’s official student union and is the largest student union in Canada. Operating as an independent organization of UBC, the AMS advocates students’ interests and provides opportunities for their growth and advancement. The AMS represents over 56,000 undergraduate and graduate students and its priorities are determined by these members. In addition to offering services to students, the AMS is an advocate of students’ issues and ensures the needs of students are presented to the University administration and the provincial and federal governments. The AMS Nest is located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded land of the Musqueam people. Every student at UBC is part of the AMS and the AMS is the manifestation of a shared student experience. From providing advocacy, to student services that support health and education, to reducing student debt, the AMS fights for student interets to the University and all levels of government so that all students can succeed in life and take ownership over their time at the University of British Columbia. Position Purpose Pit Pub is a night club, themed outlet. Every Wednesday we have Pit Night, and most weekends are booked by clubs and events companies. The Supervisor will be responsible for the financial and operational success of the outlet. The candidate will have overall responsibility for managing bar, Bartenders, bussers, execution of promotions, and coordination of the entertainment offerings available. The ideal candidate is a creative individual, with a passion for elevating customer experience and operational standards within the venue. Duties and Responsibilities Adhering to all AMS policies and procedures as well as other entity regulations such as Food Safe, Liquor laws etc. Be the point of contact for Security, RCMP, sound technicians as required Providing friendly, prompt, courteous, professional service to all guests Interact with customers, take orders for drinks, snacks. Check identification of the guests to ensure they meet age requirements for the purchase of alcohol Meeting and exceeding sales goals through suggestive sales techniques Demonstrating and applying above average product knowledge resulting in sales increases Able to utilize all computer hard- & software according to AMS guidelines Ensuring that the staff under their supervision perform their duties such as: following procedures, cleanliness, recording spillage, end of shift cash up etc. Complete daily and/or weekly ordering of stock in Optimum Control, as required Ensure cleaning schedule is followed. Ensure daily cash up is accurate and securely deposited. Ensuring at all times, that all outlet menus, POS, sales material and staff knowledge are up to date Working with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful department Other duties as required by the Manager. Qualifications and Experience Minimum Food Safe level 1 certification or higher Bartending experience in a high-volume bar environment, 3+ years required Bar supervisor experience in a high volume bar environment, 1+ years required Serving it right certification required Excellent customer service skills Ability to lift up to 25 kgs (50lbs) Ability to stand for 100% of their shift Ability to do shift work (daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays), on call Good computer skills with knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word & Excel) POS Experience required. Language: Required to speak, read and write English Strong interpersonal skills Natural leadership qualities that can be developed on the job. Exigences
