Job Title: Senior Software Engineer Contract Duration: 6 months (Maternity Leave Coverage) Client: SunLife Target Start Date: September 21 Extension/Conversion: Possibility of extension or conversion to FTE based on performance Positions: 1 Work Locations: · 2255 Sheppard Avenue East, Toronto · 227 King Street South, Waterloo Work Arrangement: 95% remote; occasional onsite attendance for training, working sessions, or team needs Work Hours: Flexible start between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.; 7.5-hour workday After-Hours Support: Required on a rotational basis (1–2 evenings/week for deployments) (On-Call: Required ONLY if converted to permanent) Team Size: 44 total; core account team of 8 Collaboration Model: Business Analysts located in India; tickets assigned by BAs; direct interaction with client software engineers Job Description: About the role: This contract is for 6 months. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with at least 10 years of Java application support, analysis, and development experience. What you will do? · Provide ongoing support of Java based applications in Production and test environments including responding to Service requests, Incident & Problem analysis, Service restoration and recovery, Security vulnerability remediation, Audits and reporting as necessary. · Participate in design, develop, test and debug programs for Java services. Deployment is done using Kubernetes containers. · Interface with other Software Engineers, Business Systems Analysts, and other stakeholders to deliver high quality solutions and maintain a stable application environment. · Enable stability through proactive monitoring activities, security compliance, change management, troubleshooting issues and conducting root-cause analysis. · Identify and participate in continuous improvement opportunities, system renewal, stability, upgrade, and Disaster Recovery projects. Responsibilities & Requirements Critical Skills / Must-Haves: 1. 10+ years of information technology experience in Java application support and development 2. 10+ years experience in: · Java, JavaScript & web development languages like HTML, XML, CSS · Java Enterprise Edition (J2EE) technologies such as Servlet, JDBC and JSP · Spring framework · Understanding of enterprise methodologies, such as ITIL, CMMI, and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) 3. 4+ years experience in: · ReactJS/ React.js · Container technologies – Kubernetes, Docker · Java SpringBoot · Web Security/OWASP 4. Web services and frameworks such as SOAP, REST API, Java APIs, JSON 5. Database technologies like SQL, Oracle, POSTGRES 6. DevOps tools - Jenkins, Artifactory, Bitbucket/Git, Gradle, Maven, CDD, Ansible 7. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) 8. Experience with Kafka and light car proxy Soft Skills: · Collaboration and teamwork · Continuous learning mindset · Ability to work in a dynamic environment with changing priorities · Strong analysis, debugging and problem-solving skills · Solid written and verbal communication skills Nice to have: 1. Exposure to Agile framework (Kanban, Scrum) 2. Experience working with cloud hosted applications / servers on AWS. 3. Exposure to team collaboration tools like Confluence, JIRA, MS Teams 4. Knowledge of Middleware technologies such as WebSphere/WebLogic Notes/Unique requirements: · This role requires Canadian Protected-B (Reliability clearance) [a minimum of 5 years of consecutive residency in Canada]. The Senior Software Engineer will provide ongoing support for Java-based applications, including incident analysis and service restoration. They will also participate in the design, development, testing, and debugging of Java services.

Candidates must have at least 10 years of experience in Java application support and development, along with expertise in various web development technologies and frameworks. Additional experience in container technologies and database management is also required.
