Résumé du poste

Legal Counsel Department: Legal Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time Location: Vancouver Reporting To: Tahira Manji Compensation: $120,000 - $150,000 / year Description Hi there, we’re Article. 👋 Since 2013, we have been redefining the furniture industry one sofa at a time. It’s not easy — it requires solving challenging, meaningful problems. This is where you come in. As our Legal Counsel, you'll provide practical, business-focused legal support to help our teams navigate growth, mitigate risk, and keep our day-to-day operations running smoothly. In our Legal department, we need a commercially minded legal partner to team up with our Head of Legal and manage a broad range of commercial, operational, and strategic legal matters. This fits into our larger need to scale our operations efficiently across Canada and the US, ensuring our teams—from marketing to logistics—can make fast, smart, and legally sound decisions without slowing down. Within your first few months, you’ll dive deep into our operations, establish strong working relationships with key business units, and begin handling everyday commercial and operational inquiries. In a year, you’ll be proud to say you have become a trusted, go-to legal advisor for our business leaders, successfully mitigating risk while enabling Article to scale. As a Particle (people of Article), you will have a high level of autonomy to solve challenging, meaningful problems the best way you can. That means you’re trusted to explore solutions you believe will work best (you’re the expert, after all). You’ll do all this while growing your skills within a company that is redefining the furniture industry. You'll be joining a tight-knit, highly collaborative legal team reporting directly to our Head of Legal. We aren't the department of "no"—we act as proactive partners to almost every team at Article, which means your days will be highly varied, deeply integrated into the business, and intellectually stimulating. We are a hybrid team — you'll be in our Vancouver office 3 days per week. What You’ll Do: You’ll be part of a collaborative Legal team working closely with our Head of Legal and business leads to solve a wide array of operational, commercial, and strategic legal matters. Specifically, you will: Partner closely with the Head of Legal to manage, prioritize, and resolve complex legal issues across our Canadian and US business operations. Provide strategic and practical legal advice to internal teams (including procurement, logistics, marketing, finance, and operations) on day-to-day commercial, operational, and risk issues. Draft and negotiate high-impact, non-standard commercial agreements that go beyond the scope of our standard templates. Identify legal and business risks early, offering highly practical, solutions-oriented advice that balances legal protection with business agility. Manage relationships with external counsel when specialized local or highly technical advice is required. Who You Are: Experienced: You have 4+ years of post-call legal experience, ideally with a mix of law firm training and in-house experience, focusing on commercial law. Credentials: You are a member in good standing with a Canadian law society (preferably the Law Society of British Columbia). Commercially Minded: You understand that great legal advice doesn't exist in a vacuum—it should help the business move forward with a clear, low-friction path. Trusted Advisor: You possess strong commercial judgment and discretion, acting as a natural partner to both legal leadership and business teams. Independent but Collaborative: You are comfortable working autonomously, with solid instincts on when to make decisions, when to ask questions, and when to escalate. Versatile: Experience with retail, e-commerce, consumer products, logistics, or supply chain matters is a big asset. Border-crossing context: Experience supporting both Canadian and U.S. business operations is a strong plus. Requirements: Legally able to work in Canada Completion of a criminal background check. Perks & Benefits Wealth: The salary range is $120,000 CAD to $150,000 CAD Starting salary is determined by your transferable skills, knowledge, work experience, and the hiring team’s budget, which is based on business needs, market compensation data, and internal equity We believe in Winning Together.
