The Renshaws’ is a contemporary art gallery operating across Brisbane and, from September 2026, Sydney. Our model is deliberately non-orthodox: we work with artists and independent curators outside of conventional commercial gallery models, collaborate with galleries interstate and internationally, and provide a bespoke kind of support to the artists we work with. This includes an inner-city studio and living quarters for artists, a private island retreat for practice-led reflection, and a program of exhibitions, studio visits, live events, and touring projects built around these represented artists. We are looking for a Gallery Director to lead our new Sydney operation, based in Alexandria. This is an autonomous role. You will run the Sydney space as your own, making decisions about program, relationships, and daily operations with the full backing of the directors. We are looking for someone who already has the instincts, the eye, the passion and enthusiasm, and the connections within Sydney to help us expand our reach. The Role The Gallery Director will be responsible for the full scope of the Sydney program: exhibition planning and delivery, artist and collector relationships, sales, event coordination, and the management of a small staff. You will also contribute to The Renshaws’ broader strategic direction and work closely with our Brisbane gallery. What We Are Looking For Deep experience in commercial (preferred) or public gallery operations. A genuine and current network within the Sydney art world and clients Curatorial sensibility and an educated understanding of contemporary Australian and international art Confidence managing sales, client relationships, and private events Strong leadership and communication skills The disposition to work with a high degree of independence Salary To be negotiated.
