2nd Class Marine Engineer

This position is a full time Excluded position with a day-for-day rotational work schedule (1 week on/1 week off). Position Summary Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Marine 2nd Engineer is responsible for assisting in the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of the vessel's propulsion machinery, auxiliary equipment, electrical systems. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining operational readiness while ensuring compliance with Transport Canada regulations, Company policies, and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. Key Responsibilities Assist in the safe operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the vessel's propulsion, auxiliary, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. Stand engineering watches in accordance with Company procedures and Transport Canada regulations. Monitor machinery performance and troubleshoot equipment issues as required. Complete preventative maintenance and repairs using the Company's planned maintenance system. Maintain accurate engineering logs, maintenance records, and operational documentation. Assist with bunkering operations and environmental protection procedures. Respond to machinery alarms, equipment failures, and emergency situations. Ensure compliance with Company policies, Transport Canada regulations, ISM Code requirements, and environmental standards. Promote a strong safety culture by participating in emergency drills, safety meetings, and ongoing training. Provide guidance and support to junior engineering personnel as required. Work collaboratively with all onboard departments to support safe and efficient vessel operations. Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a just-cause safety culture Qualifications Applicants must possess: Transport Canada Second Class Motor Certificate of Competency Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate Valid Marine Emergency Duties (MED) certification Passenger Safety Management (PSM) certification (or ability to obtain) Valid WHMIS certification Eligibility to obtain all Company-required training and certifications Why Join Bay Ferries Limited? The Marine 2nd Engineer assists in the safe operation and maintenance of the vessel's propulsion, auxiliary, and electrical systems. They are responsible for standing engineering watches and ensuring compliance with Transport Canada and ISM Code regulations.

Applicants must hold a Transport Canada Second Class Motor Certificate of Competency and a valid Marine Medical Certificate. Required certifications include Marine Emergency Duties (MED) and WHMIS, with the ability to obtain Passenger Safety Management (PSM) certification.
