Title: Accountant - Intermediate (Tax Specialist) Location: Toronto, ON (81 Bay Street, 11th Floor) Work Model: Hybrid (3 days per week in office) Duration: 6-Month Contract (Potential Extension or Full-Time Conversion) Start Date: ASAP (Target Start Date: June 15, 2026) Hours: 37.5 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Overtime: May be required during tax season About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Intermediate Accountant - Tax Specialist to support the day-to-day tax compliance and administration activities for complex Estate and Trust accounts. The successful candidate will play a key role in the preparation, review, and filing of tax returns while providing technical tax expertise and ensuring compliance with applicable tax regulations. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional with strong experience in estates, trusts, and personal tax returns who enjoys working in a collaborative and client-focused environment. Key Responsibilities Gather and analyze information from clients, internal stakeholders, and external sources required to prepare and file income tax returns. Prepare and file complex personal, estate, and trust income tax returns, including all supporting schedules and documentation. Review and assess tax planning opportunities, including post-mortem planning strategies and other tax-efficient solutions. Act as a technical tax resource and provide guidance to internal team members on estate and trust taxation matters. Review assessment notices and prepare adjustment requests, notices of objection, and Clearance Certificate applications. Correspond with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regarding tax filings, inquiries, and information requests. Ensure all tax compliance activities are completed accurately and within established service standards and deadlines. Collaborate with Trust Officers, external tax professionals, legal advisors, and clients to resolve taxation matters and implement tax strategies effectively. Review complex tax returns, including: Graduated Rate Estates (GREs) Terminal T1 Returns Rights or Things Returns T3 Trust and Estate Returns Support and mentor junior staff members by providing training, technical guidance, and review support. Take ownership of assigned projects and initiatives with minimal supervision. Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as required. Required Qualifications - 3+ years of experience in an Accounting or tax related role. - Familiar with graduated rate estates - Post-secondary degree in accounting or equivalent - Experience with preparation of T1 - Experience with preparation of T1 terminal (final) - Experience with preparation of T3 trusts and estate returns - Tax prep software experience Preferred Qualifications CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA certification.
