Our care teams work closely with residents, families and caregivers to provide personalized support in a safe and compassionate environment. The Apotex Therapeutic Recreation team helps long-term care residents enjoy meaningful and satisfying recreational experiences. Recreationists assess each resident’s strengths, interests and goals to design activities that support independence and well-being. We also adapt activities to meet individual needs so everyone can participate. We work closely with other departments to create a holistic and engaging recreational experience. Job Summary Leisure is an important component of both quality of life and well-being. It allows individuals opportunities for self-determination and utilization of strengths while engaging in meaningful leisure, which is the foundation of Therapeutic Recreation services. Therapeutic Recreation services are offered across the organization. Key Responsibilities Works with the Apotex Therapeutic Recreation and Culture & Arts teams to develop and execute therapeutic programs Completes documentation as required Attends interprofessional team meetings Interviews, orients, supervises and sets expectations with volunteers Contributes to interprofessional team and therapeutic recreation professional development Coordinates services with other staff/departments Develops and maintains inventory of program supplies Qualifications Completion of a two (2) year College Diploma in Recreation or Activation or equivalent required At least 1 year experience in a Recreationist role or equivalent required Member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (‘TRO’) or Activity Professionals of Ontario (‘APO’) preferred Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating creative recreation preferred Experience in supervision of volunteers preferred Experience with a geriatric population with multiple medical conditions and/or cognitive impairment preferred Knowledge of community resources an asset Knowledge of Jewish culture, Holy Days and festivals are an asset Second language an asset, i.e. Yiddish, Hebrew, Russian or Hungarian Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills Working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel
