Job Description LEGAL & REGULATORY SUPPORT Corporate Affairs 12-Month Internship Victoria The Opportunity BC Ferries is looking for a Legal & Regulatory Support intern to help advance a number of legal operations and information governance initiatives within Corporate Affairs. In this role, you will work at the intersection of law, technology, records management and process improvement. You will help organize and structure legal knowledge, support privacy and governance programs, strengthen corporate policy management practices, and improve how information is managed to support informed corporate decision making. The work will have a lasting impact by helping create systems that preserve institutional knowledge, increase efficiency, improve access to critical information and support the future evolution of legal service delivery. This is a unique opportunity to gain exposure to legal and regulatory operations, privacy administration, corporate governance and information governance while working closely with experienced legal, regulatory and privacy professionals. The Role Reporting to the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, your key areas of oversight will include: Legal Knowledge & Records Management Developing and maintaining a centralized legal knowledge management system, including collecting, organizing, indexing and retrieving legal opinions, precedents and historical legal advice; Reviewing, consolidating and organizing electronic legal files into a consistent, business-area and subject-matter based structure; Conducting inventories and retention, digitization and disposition reviews of historical legal and privacy records; Establishing practical processes that make legal information easier to search, retrieve, maintain and share; Supporting the preservation of institutional knowledge and ensuring important historical advice remains accessible and useful. Privacy & FOIPPA Support Supporting FOIPPA and privacy administration activities, including research, records management and process development; Organizing and maintaining privacy-related document repositories and knowledge resources; Reviewing and organizing historical Privacy Impact Assessment records and supporting appropriate digitization, retention and disposition; Helping develop consistent practices for managing privacy information and documentation. Policy & Governance Developing and maintaining a corporate policy inventory and identifying opportunities to strengthen policy governance; Supporting standardized processes for policy development, approval, storage and review; Supporting the development, maintenance and organization of corporate, legal, governance, regulatory, privacy and compliance policies; Helping ensure policies and related information are organized, current and accessible to the people who need them. Modernization & Continuous Improvement Supporting legal operations modernization initiatives, including records digitization, information governance and document management; Preparing structured, searchable and well-governed information repositories to support future technology and AI-enabled solutions; Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce duplication and make information easier to access; Supporting initiatives that improve the efficiency, consistency and service delivery of the Legal and Corporate Affairs teams. What you bring to the team Completed undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Commerce, or a related discipline Strong academic achievement, with demonstrated analytical, research, organizational and written communication skills Recent experience through co-op, internships, or employment in a professional or corporate environment Experience researching, organizing and managing information and documents with accuracy and attention to detail An interest in law, legal operations, records management, corporate governance, privacy, policy development or process improvement Strong organizational, analytical and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with professionals across different functions and levels of an organization Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information Demonstrated initiative, curiosity and ability to work independently in an evolving environment Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and an ability to learn new technology and information management systems Join us!
