Canadian Women in Action is seeking licensed professional hairdressers/hairstylists for collaboration to serve as trainers/mentors for our Hair & Beauty Program, supporting women who are building their skills and completing the practical experience and hours needed toward licensing. Organization: Black Canadian Women in Action Location: Edmonton and Calgary (On-site) Role Type: Contract / Part-time Start: Fall 2026 About the Program BCW In Action’s Hair & Beauty Program is designed to equip aspiring stylists and beauty students with industry knowledge, mentorship, and practical support to build business in hair and beauty and/or sustainable careers What BCW Is Looking For BCW In Action is seeking licensed professional beauticians / hairstylists / hairdressers who can support women participating in the program by providing hands-on training, mentorship, and supervised salon experience to help participants build skills and accumulate required hours toward licensing (where applicable). What BCW offers Space and equipment (to be discussed) Key Responsibilities Provide hands-on coaching (styling, client care, sanitation, professional standards) Supervise and mentor participants in practical sessions/salon environments to support skill-building and experience accumulation Share real-world career and business insights (pricing, client retention, professionalism, workplace readiness) Provide feedback and support participant progress across the training period Collaborate with BCW team to ensure a culturally responsive and supportive learning environment Qualifications Licensed beautician and/or hairdresser (journeyperson/Red Seal, etc) Teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience is a strong asset Comfortable supporting newcomers and/or women re-entering the workforce Strong communication skills and a supportive and informed approach Ability to host or support practical hours (in-salon or workshop format), depending on cohort needs Experience working with textured hair As a community-driven organization, we work collaboratively across projects. In addition to core responsibilities, team members may occasionally contribute to other initiatives that support our mission and community impact.
