Staff Platform & Infrastructure Engineer (Founding Engineer) Location: Remote (North America overlap preferred) Employment Type: Freelance Contract Compensation: $80–$130/hour (based on experience and scope) About BeOrchid BeOrchid is building a portfolio of software products powered by a shared platform. Instead of rebuilding authentication, billing, analytics, CRM, notifications, and infrastructure for every new product, we’re building BeOrchid Core — a reusable platform foundation that enables faster, more scalable product launches. We’re looking for a Staff Platform Engineer (Founding Engineer) to architect and build this foundation from the ground up. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex infrastructure problems, designing systems from first principles, and creating platforms that enable future teams to move faster. What You’ll Own You’ll lead the architecture and implementation of: Identity and authentication systems (SSO/OAuth) Multi-tenant SaaS architecture Platform APIs and backend infrastructure Billing systems and integrations Analytics infrastructure CRM and notification systems Cloud infrastructure and automation Monitoring, observability, and security Internal developer tooling and documentation Your work will define the foundation future BeOrchid products are built on. What We’re Looking For Required 10+ years building and operating production software systems (or exceptional equivalent experience) Strong experience designing scalable backend/distributed systems Extensive cloud infrastructure experience (AWS preferred) Docker and Kubernetes CI/CD pipelines Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent) PostgreSQL and database architecture Authentication and identity systems REST APIs Monitoring, observability, and security best practices Excellent technical documentation skills Strongly Preferred Platform Engineering, DevOps, or SRE background Startup or founding engineer experience Multi-tenant SaaS architecture experience Stripe Billing, HubSpot, OAuth Supabase, Neon, Mixpanel, PostHog, Auth0, or Clerk You’ll Thrive Here If You Think in systems rather than isolated features Prefer reusable platforms over one-off solutions Make thoughtful architecture decisions independently Balance speed with long-term maintainability Communicate technical decisions clearly Success Looks Like A future engineer can launch a new BeOrchid product using the platform, tooling, and documentation you create — with minimal support. Lead the architecture and implementation of core platform foundations including identity, multi-tenant SaaS architecture, and billing systems. Build reusable infrastructure, developer tooling, and automation to enable rapid product launches.

Requires over 10 years of experience building production software systems with deep expertise in cloud infrastructure and distributed systems. Candidates should be proficient in Docker, Kubernetes, IaC, and database architecture.
