Position Summary The Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA) under the direction of the Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP), is accountable for participating in the screening and treatment of adults with swallowing and communication disorders. The Assistant will support the adult clients to help them achieve their maximum potential. Key responsibilities include participating in screenings, carrying out the prescribed treatment program as directed and taught, documenting the clients' progress and reporting outcomes to the Speech Language Pathologist. Education Requirements Completion of a recognized Communication Disorders Assistant College Program Membership in the Communication Disorders Assistants Association of Canada is an asset Current BCLS Mandatory Qualifications Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Communications Disorder Assistant Hospital experience and/or experience with neurological conditions preferred Mandatory Competencies Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability in working with a variety of patient populations within a hospital setting. Demonstrated principles of safe patient handling Safety (patient, worker & workplace) is a BCHS Corporate Priority. The successful applicant will demonstrate good stewardship in the identification, reporting and mitigation of unsafe acts or conditions.
