Position: CERT Unit Member Posting Type: Internal Status: 1 current full-time vacant position Application Opening: Thursday, September 10, 2026 Application Deadline: Monday, September 28, 2026 We invite online applications from our sworn members for one Constable position of with our Core Engagement and Response Team (CERT). PURPOSE OF POSITION Reporting to the Sergeant i/c CERT Unit, the CERT officer will conduct the duties of a patrol officer, while utilizing a bicycle for transportation in patrolling, streets, alleys, parks, and other areas normally inaccessible to vehicular patrol units. This mode of patrol lends itself to providing a positive and effective police presence at special events and functions organized by community groups and to offering a directed patrol to problem and high crime areas within the downtown CERT patrol area. Shall, in the performance of duties, respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons. SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Initiate law enforcement action as necessary to maintain public order by patrolling and providing visual police presence, primary response to requests for police service within the CERT area, patrols being on foot, bicycle, or automobile Provide a police resource to the downtown neighbourhood and the Emerging Entertainment District Participate in various committees as required Liaise with criminal enforcement units in generating intelligence, identifying problem areas and persons in the core Conduct investigations, prepare warrants, execute warrants targeting illicit drug use and criminal activity in the core Enforce provincial laws and conduct investigations at licensed establishments Provide direction and work in conjunction with CERT Special Constables Carry out duties in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Community Safety and Policing Act SO 2019., and other lawful assignments Be accountable to supervision Perform such other duties as are lawfully assigned NOTE: The duties listed are not set forth for the purpose of limiting the assignment of work. Knowledge Thorough understanding and good working knowledge of the organizational structure, Routine Orders, Policy and Procedures, practices within the Service, as it pertains to duties performed Knowledge of bicycle mechanics and safe bicycle riding practices Desirable Courses Police Bicycle Patrol Course Criminal Investigation Training Skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of any assigned special vehicles Abilities Ability to exercise good judgment and make good decisions Be creative in problem solving and a solution-oriented individual Ability to observe, retain and prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports and operate general office equipment Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of comprehension and to handle the public with courtesy and authority Must be capable of handling multi-tasks, produce work under strict and definitive deadlines Physically capable to perform the tasks of the position All other qualifications the position justifies Interested applicants are invited to complete an Internal Position Application Form and submit it electronically no later than Monday, September 28, 2016, at 4:00pm.
