Position: Traffic Investigator Posting Type: Internal Status: 1 current full-time vacant position Application Opening: Thursday, September 10, 2026 Application Deadline: Monday, September 28, 2026 We invite online applications from our sworn members for a position of one Traffic Officer. Note that traffic officers can be periodically assigned as Selective Traffic Enforcement and Education Program” (S.T.E.E.P) officers. PURPOSE OF POSITION Report directly to the NCO i/c Traffic Section and investigate fatal and serious injury motor vehicle collisions. Investigate collisions directly involving service vehicles that result in injuries. Investigate personal injury motor vehicle collisions resulting from suspect apprehension pursuits. Investigate or provide technical assistance all railway fatalities. Traffic investigators will also follow up fail to remain MVC and perform general enforcement of the Highway Traffic Act, which may include assignment as a “Selective Traffic Enforcement and Education Program” (S.T.E.E.P) officer. Shall, in the performance of duties, respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons. SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure traffic incidents are dealt with in accordance with appropriate legislation and procedures Investigate fatal and serious injury motor vehicle collisions Railway accidents including technical assistance for vehicle related suicides Ensure adherence to existing policies and acceptable standards. General enforcement of the Highway Traffic Act Periodic assignments as a dedicated traffic enforcement officer “Selective Traffic Enforcement and Education Program” (S.T.E.E.P) by responding to complaints in safety zones, high collision areas, speeding, and other infractions of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario Carry out duties in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Community Safety and Policing Act, and other lawful assignments Be accountable to supervision Perform such other duties as are lawfully assigned NOTE: The duties listed are not set forth for the purpose of limiting the assignment of work. They are not to be construed as a complete list of the many duties to be performed under the position title or those to be performed temporarily outside an employee's normal line of work. Knowledge Working knowledge of Policing Adequacy Standards Manual particularly in relation to traffic issues Thorough understanding of relevant legislation Thorough understanding and good working knowledge of the organizational structure, Routine Orders, Policy and Procedures, CALEA, and practices within the Service, as it pertains to duties performed Skills Strong oral and written communication skills Computer literate in CAD, RMS, Niche, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint Demonstrated communication Time-management and organizational skills Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of any assigned special vehicles Abilities Ability to exercise good judgment and make good creative decisions Must also be flexible, and tolerant Ability to observe, retain and prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports and operate general office equipment Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of comprehension and to handle the public with courtesy and authority Must be capable of handling multi-tasks, produce work under strict and definitive deadlines All other qualifications the position justifies Interested applicants are invited to complete an Internal Position Application Form and submit it electronically no later than Monday, September 28, 2026 at 4:00 pm.
