To learn more, please visit www.bray.com. Position summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive HSE Specialist to support our manufacturing operations in Montreal. Reporting to the North America HSE Manager and the Operations Manager, this role will provide dedicated support to our Lachine and Anjou facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving occupational health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and local regulations. This position plays a key role in strengthening our safety culture, supporting regulatory compliance, and promoting safe work practices across our operations. Experience in a manufacturing environment is required; prior exposure to nuclear manufacturing protocols is considered a strong asset. Key Responsibilities: Occupational Health & Safety: Facility Oversight: Conduct regular site visits between the Lachine and Anjou facilities to complete safety inspections, hazard assessments, and facility walkthroughs, ensuring consistent visibility and support across both locations. Safety Inspections and Audits: Perform routine workplace inspections and safety audits to identify hazards, assess compliance, and recommend corrective actions that support a safe and compliant work environment. Incident Management: Lead investigations for incidents and near misses, determine root causes using established Root Cause Analysis methodologies, and coordinate the implementation and follow-up of corrective and preventive actions. Training & Culture: Support a proactive safety culture by developing and delivering in-person bilingual HSE training, new hire safety onboarding, and routine toolbox talks in French and English. Risk Assessments: Conduct Job Safety Analyses and risk assessments for machinery, equipment, tasks, and manufacturing processes to identify hazards and recommend appropriate controls. CNESST Management: Manage workers’ compensation claims, coordinate related follow-up activities, and serve as a liaison with the CNESST as required. Reporting & Compliance: Maintain accurate HSE records, monitor safety key performance indicators, and prepare regular compliance reports for the North America HSE Manager and facility leadership. Environmental Compliance: Waste Management: Oversee chemical handling, industrial waste management, storage, disposal, and recycling activities to support compliance with applicable Quebec environmental regulations. Permit Management: Maintain, monitor, and coordinate the renewal of environmental permits related to air emissions, wastewater, hazardous materials, and other regulated activities. Sustainability Tracking: Monitor and report on facility-level environmental metrics, including carbon footprint, energy usage, waste reduction, and other sustainability initiatives. Nuclear Manufacturing & Quality Support: Regulatory Alignment: Support alignment of facility safety practices with Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission requirements, where applicable. Radiation Safety: Assist the Radiation Safety Officer with dosimetry tracking, contamination control protocols, and related radiation safety procedures, where applicable. High-Standard Culture: Adapt and strengthen industrial safety programs to meet the heightened standards, discipline, and procedural rigor required in nuclear-grade manufacturing environments. Qualifications: Education & Experience: Education: Associate’s degree, diploma, or DEC in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field is required. A bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline is considered an asset. Experience: Three to five years of progressive HSE experience in a manufacturing, heavy industrial, or similar operational environment. Regulated Industry Experience: Experience in nuclear manufacturing, aerospace, or another highly regulated, high-precision manufacturing environment is considered a strong asset. Certifications: Professional Designation: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), PSAC, or an equivalent provincial health and safety designation is preferred. Nuclear/Radiation Training: Formal training in radiation protection, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission requirements, or related nuclear safety standards is considered an asset. Language & Knowledge: Bilingualism: Fluency in written and spoken French and English is required. Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety and environmental legislation, including Quebec’s Act Respecting Occupational Health and Safety (LSST) and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). Mobility: Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle, with the ability to travel regularly between the Lachine and Anjou facilities.
