Marine Crane Operator – Derrick Barge Primary Location: Kitimat, B.C Employee Status: Full Time - Rotational Hourly Rate: $60.00/- Contact Information: [email protected] The opportunity This position is responsible for operating a lattice boom 220-tonne crawler crane on a derrick barge at a marine demolition project for Bridgemans. The incumbent is primarily responsible for the safe operation of the crane and for performing rigging tasks in support of the demolition of a marine terminal / dock facility. The role works closely with the Barge Foreman and Supervisor, Vessel Captains, and other skilled craft personnel to deliver the works safely, on schedule, and in accordance with the approved work methodology. Key Responsibilities Operate a 220-tonne crane mounted on a derrick barge in support of marine demolition activities, in accordance with manufacturer requirements, approved lift plans, and applicable regulations. Perform rigging tasks to support the demolition of marine terminal and dock structures, including the handling, lifting, and load-out of demolition arisings. Perform concrete, steel, sheet, and timber pile extractions utilizing a vibratory hammer. Perform concrete cutting operations of pile caps up to 54" wide using hydraulic shear cutters. Set up, break down, remove, and re-instate the crane and necessary attachments as required by the work sequence. Prepare lift plans by calculating crane capabilities and load weights in preparation for rigging and hoisting operations. Perform daily pre-operational inspections of the crane, attachments, and rigging, and record and report all defects and deficiencies. Perform regular maintenance of all crane components and rigging and remove defective equipment from service. Coordinate lifting and demolition activities with the Barge Foreman, Vessel Captains, riggers, signalers’, and adjacent work crews, maintaining clear and continuous communication throughout all operations. Monitor barge stability, list, trim, and environmental conditions during lifting operations and stop work where limits are approached or exceeded. Perform works as assigned by the Project Superintendent or Barge Foreman to ensure the successful completion of the marine demolition project. Qualification and Experience Demonstrated experience operating hydraulic or mechanical friction cranes of 300 tonnes and under. Prior experience operating cranes from a floating platform, derrick barge, or similar marine environment. Valid crane operator certification recognized in British Columbia (Mobile Crane Operator / Unlimited Tonnage or equivalent), maintained in good standing. Rigging and signaling qualification appropriate to the lifting operations performed. Able to meet and maintain all project, vessel, and client site access, medical, and fitness-for-duty requirements and pass drug and alcohol clearance. Physical and Working Requirements The position is primarily site-based and includes outdoor work in a marine and industrial environment.
