About the job Senior Joint Venture Accountant Location: Calgary, AB Type: Permanent role About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Production Accountant to join a well-established oil & gas organization in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager, Finance & Administration, the successful candidate will play a key role in production accounting, financial reporting, system administration, process improvement, and providing leadership to junior team members. The role is responsible for managing the accurate, timely, and compliant production, revenue, royalty accounting and JIB transactions for a portfolio of non-operated oil & gas assets. Working closely with accounting and operational stakeholders, you will manage non-operated assets, oversee operations accounting activities, support audits, and maintain financial data integrity. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who combines strong technical production accounting expertise with financial systems knowledge and leadership capabilities. Key Responsibilities Manage the full-cycle monthly production accounting process for non-operated assets, including validation of operator statements, production allocations, sales volumes, inventories, imbalances, and prior-period adjustments. Prepare, validate, and submit Petrinex production reporting and amendments within prescribed deadlines, and maintain complete supporting documentation. Investigate volumetric and revenue variances and reconcile operator, pipeline, P2 Metrix, and general ledger data; coordinate timely corrections with operators and internal stakeholders. Prepare and review production and revenue accruals, equalizations, and related month-end accounting entries. Calculate and record crown, freehold, GORR, and contractual royalties based on validated production and pricing data. Ensure royalty calculations comply with provincial regulations (AER, Alberta Crown framework, etc.) and lease terms. Review financial system master data including wells, contracts, royalties, fees, and related accounting information. Review Cash calls, JIB transactions, ensuring costs from operators, partners, and vendors are accurate and valid. Review accounting entries prepared by accounting team members and ensure financial accuracy. Lead month-end close activities including accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and management reporting. Monitor annual work programs, budgets, and JV expenditures. Support operator and non-operator joint venture audits and liaise with auditors and business partners. Prepare and support regulatory reporting requirements, including royalty and government reporting. Draft internal approval documentation and support compliance with Joint Operating Agreements and company policies. Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and financial system efficiencies. Provide mentorship, leadership, and day-to-day direction to a JV & Marketing Accountant while supporting the broader accounting team. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline. CPA, CA, CGA, or CMA designation. CAPPA Production Accounting designation (or equivalent recognized production accounting credential). At least 6 years of progressive accounting experience. Minimum 5 years of experience within the Western Canadian oil & gas industry. Strong Production Accounting experience. Working knowledge of Petrinex and applicable Western Canadian production, measurement, royalty, and regulatory reporting requirements. Demonstrated experience supporting non-operated assets and resolving discrepancies with operators and working-interest partners. Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, audits, and JV operations. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills. Previous leadership, coaching, or mentoring experience. Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Oracle, P2 Qbyte, and P2 Metrix. Experience with financial systems administration, upgrades, configuration, or process automation initiatives. Production JV accounting exposure within the oil & gas industry. Experience supporting regulatory reporting and joint venture audits.
