Lead Oracle Apps DBA Position Overview Buchanan Technologies is seeking a highly experienced Lead Oracle Apps DBA to support complex, enterprise-scale Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) and Oracle database environments. This is a hands-on technical role spanning the Oracle EBS application tier and database tier, with responsibility for administration, architecture, upgrades, patching, cloning, performance, high availability, disaster recovery, security, and modernization. The ideal candidate brings deep Oracle Apps DBA expertise in EBS R12.1/R12.2, expert Oracle Database administration skills, and experience supporting mission-critical ERP environments across on-premises and cloud platforms. The role is primarily focused on technical execution, technical leadership, and close collaboration with internal infrastructure, application development, ERP functional, security, cloud, and service-management teams. What You'll Do Oracle E-Business Suite / Apps DBA Administration Administer and support Oracle E-Business Suite R12.1 and R12.2 environments across development, test, QA, staging, disaster recovery, and production. Own day-to-day Oracle Apps DBA activities across both application and database tiers, including service availability, concurrent processing, application services, configuration, and environment health. Plan and execute Oracle EBS patching and maintenance using ADOP / online patching, AutoConfig, and related EBS utilities and standards. Perform EBS cloning, refreshes, environment provisioning, and configuration using Rapid Clone and automated or scripted procedures. Lead or support Oracle EBS application upgrades, technology-stack upgrades, database upgrades, and platform migrations with minimal business disruption. Administer and troubleshoot the Oracle EBS technology stack, including Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle HTTP Server, and related middleware components. Support EBS integrations with enterprise identity and access solutions such as Oracle Access Manager (OAM), Oracle Internet Directory (OID), SSO, or comparable platforms. Oracle Database Architecture, Administration, and Performance Design, administer, and support scalable, secure, and highly available Oracle database platforms supporting Oracle EBS and other enterprise applications. Provide hands-on administration for Oracle Database 11g, 12c, 19c, 21c, or newer releases, including multitenant architectures where applicable. Develop and contribute to database technology roadmaps, modernization plans, consolidation strategies, and lifecycle-management standards aligned with business and technical requirements. Design and operate Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard / Active Data Guard, RMAN backup and recovery, and disaster-recovery solutions. Perform advanced performance analysis and tuning across the EBS application and database stack, including SQL/PLSQL, execution plans, indexing, partitioning, memory, storage, wait events, and capacity planning. Review database designs, schemas, stored procedures, SQL, PL/SQL, and data models in collaboration with application development teams. Execute database patching, upgrades, migrations, cloning, refreshes, backup/recovery testing, and lifecycle-management activities. Maintain database security, encryption, auditing, vulnerability remediation, compliance controls, and operational standards in partnership with security teams. Cloud, Exadata, and Modernization Lead or support migrations of Oracle EBS application and database tiers from on-premises environments to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and other supported cloud platforms. Support Oracle Exadata, Exadata Cloud Service (ExaCS), Exadata Cloud@Customer (ExaCC), and related engineered-system environments. Assess existing database and EBS environments and recommend architectural, sizing, availability, performance, operational-readiness, and modernization improvements. Implement and improve monitoring, automation, and repeatable operations using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), shell scripting, Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD, or comparable tooling. Production Support and Operational Excellence Provide production support for business-critical Oracle EBS and Oracle database environments, including troubleshooting complex application-tier, database-tier, middleware, and infrastructure issues. Lead incident resolution, root-cause analysis, problem management, and preventive actions for recurring or high-impact production issues. Support database deployments, release management, production implementations, and change-management activities. Establish and maintain operational runbooks, database and EBS standards, patching practices, monitoring procedures, backup/recovery procedures, DR procedures, governance, and support documentation. Monitor environment health, capacity, availability, and future growth requirements, and translate application or system requirements into scalable technical solutions. Partner with application development, ERP functional, infrastructure, network, storage, cybersecurity, cloud, and service-management teams to deliver stable and scalable solutions. Participate in scheduled after-hours maintenance, release activities, upgrades, DR exercises, and on-call support as required. Technical Leadership Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to Oracle DBAs, Apps DBAs, and database engineers. Provide technical oversight across multiple concurrent EBS, database, infrastructure, and modernization initiatives. Drive technical planning, implementation approach, effort estimation, architecture guidance, risk identification, governance, and production-readiness reviews. Promote standardization, automation, knowledge sharing, documentation discipline, and continuous improvement across Oracle operations. Required Qualifications 10+ years of Oracle DBA / Oracle Apps DBA experience in large enterprise environments. Strong hands-on Oracle E-Business Suite Apps DBA experience, including EBS R12.1 and R12.2 administration and production support. Hands-on experience with EBS patching and online patching (ADOP), cloning / refreshes, AutoConfig, upgrades, and environment management. Strong experience administering Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle HTTP Server, and the Oracle EBS application technology stack. Expert knowledge of Oracle Database administration, preferably including Oracle 12c and 19c or newer. Advanced expertise with Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard / Active Data Guard, RMAN, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, and database lifecycle management. Advanced Oracle database and EBS performance troubleshooting and tuning skills, including SQL and PL/SQL analysis, execution-plan analysis, indexing, memory, storage, wait events, and capacity planning. Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical production environments with strict availability, recovery, security, compliance, and change-management requirements. Strong Linux / Unix administration fundamentals and shell-scripting capability. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Oracle Exadata, DBaaS. Experience migrating Oracle EBS and Oracle databases from on-premises environments to OCI, AWS, or multicloud architectures. Experience with Oracle Access Manager (OAM), Oracle Internet Directory (OID), SSO, Okta, or other enterprise identity integrations for Oracle EBS. Experience with Oracle GoldenGate or other replication technologies. Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and enterprise monitoring / alerting solutions. Experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code. Experience supporting adjacent Oracle technologies or ERP-integrated platforms such as SOA, OBIEE/OBIA, Hyperion/EPM, Demantra, Oracle Fusion, JD Edwards, or PeopleSoft. Oracle OCP, OCM, OCI, Exadata, or related Oracle certifications.
