Role Description The Prosthetic & Orthotic Technician is a full-time, on-site role. The technician is responsible for fabricating, assembling, adjusting, and repairing prosthetic and orthotic devices according to clinical specifications and patient measurements. Day-to-day tasks include working with materials such as plastics, laminates, metals, and foams; operating hand tools and machinery; and ensuring devices meet safety, quality, and functional standards. The role involves supporting clinicians during patient fittings, documenting work performed, maintaining a clean and organized workshop, and adhering to regulatory requirements. Collaboration with the clinical team to troubleshoot device issues and improve fabrication processes is an essential part of this position. Qualifications Demonstrated technical skills in Orthotics and Prosthetics, including fabrication, modification, and repair of devices. Knowledge of Orthopedics and biomechanics sufficient to interpret clinical specifications and translate them into accurate device construction. Strong Communication skills for collaborating with clinicians and colleagues, and for documenting work clearly and accurately. Commitment to high-quality Patient Care, including attention to comfort, safety, and functional outcomes of devices. Experience using hand tools, power tools, and lab equipment in a medical device or similar technical environment. Ability to read and follow technical drawings, measurements, and written instructions with strong attention to detail. Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple cases and meet fabrication deadlines. What We're Looking For Experience comes first. We're prioritizing candidates with real, hands-on time in a prosthetic/orthotic fabrication setting over any specific certificate or credential. Preference for candidates who are both experienced and already Registered with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada, in prosthetics, orthotics, or both. Strong, practical skills with typical fabrication machinery and equipment — this is the core of the day-to-day work. Experience with digital CAD/CAM systems (e.g. Autodesk, Qwadra Products, or similar) is a plus, but it's secondary — our main focus is on solid, traditional hands-on fabrication skills. Comfort and confidence working primarily on lower limb devices, with an eye for detail and quality finishing. Candidates should have strong hands-on experience in prosthetic and orthotic fabrication and a working knowledge of biomechanics. Registration with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada and experience with CAD/CAM systems are preferred.
