This role oversees press performance throughout production runs, proactively addresses print and mechanical issues, and ensures equipment is properly prepared, maintained, and operated.In this role you will provide day‑to‑day direction and coaching to press crew members, supports skill development within the team, and promotes a workplace culture focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.ResponsibilitiesMaintain a safe and healthy work environment by following organizational standards and legal regulationsEnsure all mechanical, electrical, and electronic controls are in good working order, clean, and properly adjusted prior to and after usageDemonstrate mechanical competency with the inking, dampening, printing units, and feederAssign work to the 2nd Press Operator, Feeder, and TenderTrain junior crew membersMonitor the quality and consistency of the product during the run against the reference standard or sign‑off sheetRecognize and resolve printing issues such as picking, piling, ghosting, poor ink trapping, and register problems while ensuring safe press operationMaintain quality results by adhering to established standardsPerform various other duties and responsibilities as requiredQualificationsMinimum QualificationsMust be able to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Secret (Level II) personal security clearanceMust have a minimum of 5 years lead operator experience on multi-unit, 40 inch sheet-fed printing press (straight line or perfector).Must be able to work all shifts (including current and newly created shift schedules), evenings, nights, weekends, 12-hour shifts and rotationMust be able and willing to work a reasonable amount of overtime during the week and on weekendsMust be able to meet the physical demands of the job (standing/walking for prolonged periods, bend/reach, lift/lower up to 45 lbs.)Must possess fine motor skills (manual dexterity) and the mechanical aptitude to make necessary fine adjustments to equipmentMust be able to follow spoken and written instructionsSoft Skills and CompetenciesInterpersonal skills - teamwork and collaboration, leadershipOrganization and time managementAttention to detailProblem solving and decision makingInitiativeAdditional InformationEqual Opportunity StatementOur organization is committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of lithographic printing equipment to produce high-quality materials. Provides direction and coaching to press crew members while ensuring equipment is properly maintained and operated.

Requires a minimum of 5 years of lead operator experience on multi-unit, 40-inch sheet-fed printing presses. Must be able to obtain a Government of Canada Secret security clearance and meet specific physical demands.
