Résumé du poste

COMPANY OVERVIEW / ABOUT US The Canadian Pork Council (CPC) serves as the national voice for hog producers in Canada, representing over 7,000 farms across nine provincial associations. Our mission is to advance, promote, and protect the excellence of Canadian pork production through advocacy, national programs, and communication. From managing complex national traceability databases to supporting on-farm food safety and biosecurity initiatives, the technology we maintain and build directly supports a vital, globally respected Canadian industry. CPC manages national digital systems that support the Canadian pork sector, including PigTRACE and associated technology platforms. The security, reliability, and continued modernization of these systems are critical to CPC’s ability to support producers, provincial organizations, and industry partners. THE ROLE / POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a Senior Software Developer to help drive the architectural modernization of our core platforms. Joining a highly focused, lean engineering team (currently comprised of one full-time Lead Architect and a part-time developer), you will work in lockstep with the Lead Architect to replace our aging Zend 1 monolith using the strangler fig pattern. We operate with a flat hierarchy; rather than a traditional reporting structure, you will work as a core technical partner alongside our Lead Architect. Together, the team will safely decouple legacy systems while building robust, cloud-native backend replacements and a streamlined SaaS frontend. Championing rock-solid architecture and meticulous documentation, you will design serverless solutions within an AWS environment, leaning heavily on modern, standards-compliant JavaScript (ESM), Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles, and native web technologies. Location: Canada Pay rate: $105,000-$125,000 Working model: Remote (Candidates must be available to work standard Manitoba business hours). Position type: Permanent

Ce que vous ferez

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES • Collaborate directly with the Lead Architect in a flat, tight-knit setting, contributing deep, hands-on code while actively contributing to architectural best practices. • Partner closely on the phased migration of legacy PHP (Zend 1) applications to a modern, cloud-native architecture utilizing the strangler fig pattern. • Design, build, and deploy serverless services using AWS Lambda (Node.js ES6+ via ESM), API Gateway, and CloudFormation. • Implement scalable data storage and retrieval systems utilizing Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS with Oracle, and S3, applying CQRS patterns where optimal. • Develop native web components from scratch based on our established design system, avoiding heavy frontend frameworks in favor of standard Web APIs. • Analyze existing legacy PHP codebases to untangle business logic and establish clean Domain-Driven Design boundaries for new microservices. • Manage and configure broader AWS infrastructure, maintaining strict security and governance across multiple accounts using IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Route53. • Actively apply and enforce cloud-native security paradigms across all architectural decisions, ensuring infrastructure and application layers are secured by design. • Manage and configure broader AWS infrastructure, maintaining strict security and governance across multiple accounts using IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Route53. • Actively apply and enforce cloud-native security paradigms across all architectural decisions, ensuring infrastructure and application layers are secured by design. • Write lean, high-performance code with minimal reliance on bloated third-party libraries, prioritizing sustainable engineering practices. • Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation to ensure architectural decisions are clear, consistent, and resilient. • Integrate contemporary agentic development workflows into your day-to-day engineering—utilizing repository-level AI instructions, autonomous CLI coding agents, and modern multi-agent orchestration—to accelerate delivery while maintaining strict architectural discipline.

Exigences

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE • Extensive professional experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on full-stack development using modern JavaScript (ES6+ ESM). • Proven track record of executing monolithic migrations to distributed or serverless architectures, specifically utilizing the strangler fig pattern. • Solid understanding of cloud-native paradigms; hands-on experience with AWS is highly preferred, though deep expertise in other major cloud platforms is transferable. • Deep understanding of cloud-native security paradigms (AWS-specific preferred), with the ability to identify, assess, and analyze security threats and vulnerabilities. • Practical, up-to-date experience (as of late 2026) with agentic AI development; comfortable structuring problem-shaping constraints, leveraging autonomous coding assistants, and operating strictly within repository-defined AI guidelines. • Experience translating established design systems into native Web Components and building lightweight, efficient frontend interfaces without relying on bloated libraries. • Familiarity with architectural design concepts, particularly Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS). • Working knowledge of PHP to read, interpret, and safely deprecate legacy codebases. • Demonstrated commitment to zero-based development, writing lean code, and producing high-quality architectural documentation. • Strong collaborative skills tailored for a very small team environment, with an eagerness to operate as an equal peer in technical discussions and hands-on development.
