Détails du poste

University of Ottawa – Human and Environmental Physiology Research Unit (HEPRU) | Ottawa, ON | Closing Date: No Closing Date About The Position The Human and Environmental Physiology Research Unit (HEPRU) at the University of Ottawa, home of Operation Heat Shield Canada, is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to lead innovative research examining how environmental and individual factors influence human physiological tolerance, health, and performance during heat stress. Fellows will work closely with Dr. Glen P. Kenny and an interdisciplinary network of national and international scientists, public health experts, and physicians, with opportunities to translate research findings into heat-health guidance and strategies for protecting vulnerable populations and workers. About HEPRU HEPRU is conducting cutting-edge research assessing human physiological tolerance to heat stress – from the cell to the whole-body level. This includes the development of heat-protection strategies that empower the general population and workers to adapt to the impacts of rising temperatures. With access to multiple environmental chambers, the world’s only air calorimeter (https://hepru.ca/tour-our-lab), and a fully equipped cellular and molecular laboratory, HEPRU provides a unique training environment to promote scientific discoveries. With new investments ($5M) in state-of-the-art tools and instruments in 2023, we are excited to expand the scope of our research into new areas of discovery. Research Opportunities Fellows will take a lead role in developing and conducting research projects and will have opportunities to: Collaborate with HEPRU’s national and international academic, clinical, and public health partners. Mentor undergraduate and graduate trainees. Present findings at major scientific meetings. Lead scientific publications. Develop competitive fellowship and grant applications and build an independent program of research. Qualifications Hold, or be nearing completion of, a doctoral degree in human/environmental physiology, kinesiology, health sciences, or a related discipline. Have experience in human physiology research. Experience with one or more of the following would be an asset: indirect calorimetry; body temperature measurement; cardiovascular, skin blood flow, and sweating responses; or cellular and molecular techniques including blood sampling, ELISA, and Western blotting. Demonstrate scientific writing, quantitative, communication, and organizational skills. Interest in developing an independent research program and competing for fellowship funding is welcomed. An Inclusive Training Environment HEPRU is committed to providing a fair, inclusive, respectful, and supportive research environment in which trainees from all backgrounds can reach their full potential. We value diverse perspectives, creativity, collaboration, and equitable participation throughout the research discovery process. Position Details Applications are reviewed until positions are filled. Funding is available for 2 years, with a possible 1-year extension. Compensation is competitive and above the standard uOttawa postdoctoral rate. Flexible start date. International candidates are encouraged to apply. Location: Montpetit Hall, University of Ottawa, 125 University Pvt., Ottawa, Ontario K1N 6N5.
