Bilingual Lawyer [New Brunswick Union of Public & Private Employees]

The New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees, representing over 10,500 members, is looking for a Bilingual Legal Officer to join our team in Fredericton. Duties: The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for representing the union and its members at grievance arbitration and handling grievance file settlements. The bilingual Legal Officer will also be responsible for appearing before all levels of court and administrative boards and tribunals, conducting legal research and providing legal opinions when required. Some travel is required. The position reports directly to the Executive Director. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a law degree and be a member or be eligible to be a member of the Law Society of New Brunswick and have excellent communication, negotiation, interpersonal and problem-solving skills along with an ability to work both as part of a team and independently. Experience appearing before boards/arbitrators in labour/employment matters is considered an asset. Written and spoken proficiency in English and French is also required. The New Brunswick Union offers an attractive compensation package including a pension plan, 100% paid health and dental benefits, a 35 hour work week, overtime paid at time-and-a-half, retirement allowance, yearly wellness allowance, free parking, professional dues and insurance paid by the employer, reduced summer hours, professional development opportunities and many other benefits as outlined in the NBU staff collective agreement. The salary for this unionized position is from $4,097 bi-weekly to $5,232 bi-weekly.
