Duties And Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Manager, Architectural Services, this job is primarily responsible for constructing, erecting, installing or repairing structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools. Responsibilities also include all flooring, ceiling and minor roof repairs Qualifications The incumbent must possess the following qualifications: Knowledge of carpentry and maintenance upkeep Knowledge of fire protection for the work being performed Knowledge of the safe and proper use of all hand and power tools. This includes any maintenance that may be required for the safe operation An understanding of job safety on the work site and in the use of ladders and scaffolding Has the ability to work with limited supervision while performing carpenter related duties in the shops and all areas of the campus Ability to read and interpret manuals and drawings related to the job Ability to effectively work individually, and or as part of a team of diverse groups Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers Ability to follow through and carry out assignments Knowledge of FMP policies and procedures Knowledge of hazards involved with work and safety measures to be taken Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Aptitude for science and mathematics will be preferred Ability to use elevated work platforms with appropriate training Ability to read and write English Education And Experience The above is normally acquired through: The job requires completion of a valid Ontario Carpenter Trade License for the Province of Ontario or equivalent The job requires a minimum of 5 years of experience including the apprenticeship-training program, which consists of on-the-job/ work experience of 7,200 hours and 720 hours of in-school training HR Note Equivalencies will be considered.
