International Purchasing Director The International Purchasing Director is a senior leader responsible for directing the company’s global procurement strategy, managing supplier relationships across markets, negotiating contracts, and ensuring cost-effective, reliable, and compliant sourcing for materials, products, and services. Core Responsibilities Lead international purchasing strategy across categories, regions, and supplier networks. Identify, evaluate, and qualify global suppliers based on cost, quality, capacity, risk, and delivery performance. Negotiate commercial terms, pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and contractual agreements with international vendors. Oversee sourcing, purchasing, and procurement workflows from requisition through delivery. Manage supplier performance, conduct business reviews, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Partner with Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, Legal, and Logistics to align purchasing decisions with business objectives. Monitor global market trends, commodity changes, geopolitical risk, and trade compliance requirements that affect sourcing. Drive cost reduction, supply continuity, and strategic sourcing initiatives to improve competitiveness. Lead and develop purchasing teams, building capability, accountability, and succession depth. Support budget planning, forecasting, and executive reporting on procurement performance. Typical Profile 15+ years in procurement, global sourcing, purchasing, or supply chain leadership. Strong understanding of international supplier management, contract negotiation, sourcing strategy, and procurement controls. Proven ability to reduce cost, improve supplier performance, and secure supply in complex global environments. Excellent analytical, financial, negotiation, and cross-cultural communication skills. Experience in manufacturing, consumer goods, retail, industrial, or other multi-market businesses is often preferred. Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, engineering, or related field; master’s degree or procurement certifications are often preferred. Key Metrics Cost savings and total landed cost improvement. Supplier on-time delivery and quality performance. Supply continuity and risk mitigation effectiveness. Contract compliance and negotiation success rate. Procurement cycle time and forecast accuracy.
