Mechanical Engineer

CBCL is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Industrial Engineering team based in Fredericton, NB! As our ideal candidate you have hands-on industry experience in project engineering or technical roles, or as a consultant designing industrial mechanical systems. This includes expertise in pulp and paper, manufacturing, process fluid systems, stress analysis, petrochemical storage and transfer, storage tanks, compressed gas systems, boilers, power plants, or other industrial systems. Experience supporting mill operations, equipment upgrades, maintenance reliability, shutdown planning, commissioning, or process optimization in pulp and paper environments would be considered a strong asset. Your Key Responsibilities: Support or lead design projects for pulp and paper, industry, manufacturing, energy transitions, fuel storage, natural gas, pipelines, power plants, and boiler systems, ensuring technical excellence, quality, and client satisfaction; Serve as Project Manager on multi-discipline initiatives, overseeing scope, budgets, schedules, and deliverables; Provide technical direction, peer review, and mentorship to design support staff across multiple disciplines, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment; Liaise with clients, guiding design decisions and ensuring alignment with project requirements and expectations; Contribute to business development and proposal preparation, supporting strategic growth objectives; Oversee construction administration and perform field reviews to ensure designs are implemented effectively; Plan, document, and lead commissioning and start-up activities to ensure operational readiness; and Support pulp and paper mill projects involving mechanical equipment, piping systems, tanks, pressure systems, utility services, maintenance reliability, shutdown work, and process improvements; and Prepare high-quality technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and client use. Your Capabilities and Credentials: A degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, with registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with provincial Engineering Associations; Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the design of mechanical systems or direct industry project experience, preferably within pulp and paper, manufacturing, power generation, or heavy industrial environments; Additional professional accreditations would be an asset; Familiarity in the design of mechanical systems using AutoCAD Plant3D and solid modelling packages (Solidworks, Inventor); Experience with mill mechanical systems, rotating equipment, pumps, piping, pressure vessels, tanks, steam and condensate systems, material handling, or related pulp and paper process equipment would be considered an asset; Detail-oriented, organized, hardworking, with a team player attitude; Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; and Valid driver’s license and be able to travel to job sites within Atlantic Canada. Competitive salary: $90,000-$135,000 annually, depending on experience. To meet pay transparency requirements, compensation ranges are included for roles in locations where required by law. The salary range listed for this position represents the expected hiring range; actual starting compensation will vary based on factors such as professional experience, technical expertise, credentials, and alignment with the role's requirements, as well as internal compensation structures and market data. The Mechanical Engineer will lead and support design projects for industrial systems, including pulp and paper, energy, and manufacturing sectors. They will also serve as a Project Manager, overseeing budgets, schedules, and technical excellence while mentoring junior staff.

Candidates must hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering and be eligible for P.Eng. registration. A minimum of five years of experience in industrial mechanical system design is required, along with proficiency in CAD software.
