Résumé du poste

Support the design, testing, and optimization of CO2 electrolysis and gas separation systems from lab to pilot scale. Perform process simulations, engineering calculations, and analyze operational data to improve product separation schemes.

Détails du poste

Who We Are… CERT Systems Inc (CERT) is on a mission to produce essential moleciles without fossil fuels. Our breakthrough electrochemical route to convert captured CO2 into valuable fuels and chemical feedstocks means that we can help the planet avoid over 500 million tonnes of emissions by 2040. Who YOU Are… You are a well-rounded chemical/process engineer who cannot wait to start designing, testing and upgrading separation systems. You are also excited to work hands-on in the lab and pilot environment. A start-up environment is exciting to you because you'll be exposed to a wider range of technical challenges, as well as take charge of your own work. You are equally comfortable working on process simulations, experimental systems, and scale-up activities — whether that means operating gas separation equipment, analyzing GC data, developing process models, or supporting pilot plant operations. Position start date: January 2027, minimum 8 month co-op. The Successful Candidate Will Support the design, testing, and optimization of CO₂ electrolysis and gas separation systems Participate in process development activities from lab-scale experiments to pilot-scale scale-up Conduct experimental testing on gas separation and purification systems, including membranes, adsorption systems, or related technologies Develop and improve product separation schemes for electrochemical conversion systems Perform process simulations and engineering calculations using Aspen Plus, HYSYS, MATLAB, Python, or related tools Conduct mass and energy balance calculations and analyze process performance Troubleshoot process equipment and experimental systems and develop testing plans Analyze experimental and operational data and compile results independently in reports, presentations, and technical summaries Support techno-economic analysis (TEA) and process feasibility studies Participate in pilot plant setup, operation, commissioning, and process optimization activities Communicate technical results during regular project meetings and prepare documentation as required Aid in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety procedures, and experimental protocols Required Skills Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nanotechnology Engineering, or related disciplines Strong academic background with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Familiarity with process engineering fundamentals, including: Thermodynamics Mass and energy balances Fluid flow and transport phenomena Reaction engineering Experience or familiarity with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, MATLAB, Python, or similar) Excellent teamwork, organizational, communication, and time management skills Strong hands-on experimental and troubleshooting abilities Ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment Preferred Qualifications Experience with gas separation processes, membrane systems, adsorption systems, or gas handling equipment Exposure to electrochemical systems, electrolyzers, fuel cells, or carbon conversion technologies Experience with pilot plants, scale-up activities, or industrial process testing Familiarity with techno-economic analysis (TEA) and process evaluation Experience with analytical tools such as gas chromatography (GC) Startup, R&D, or cleantech experience is considered an asset
