Associate Lawyer - Civil & Public Interest Litigation

The firm's work includes holding police and government to account, acting for survivors and families in difficult and sensitive matters, and representing individuals, businesses and other organizations in a variety of civil disputes. Chantler & Company is one of several independent firms and lawyers practising in association as Gastown Litigation Counsel. The firm is seeking an experienced associate, approximately three to six years' call, to work closely with a senior litigator on a broad range of civil and public interest matters. These include the civil liability of police, Charter claims, wrongful death, historical sexual assault claims, environmental and public interest litigation, coroner’s inquests, professional regulation, and employment and small-business disputes. The successful candidate will carry significant responsibility, contribute to case strategy, and have the opportunity to develop their practice. The firm offers a base salary of $120,000 to $160,000, commensurate with experience, together with a productivity bonus on collected billings above an annual target. The position provides courtroom experience, direct mentorship from a senior litigator, and a practice grounded in professionalism, strong ethics, and dedicated, personal service to every client. The candidate should be an experienced lawyer with approximately three to six years' call. They must be capable of handling complex litigation including police liability and Charter claims.
