Senior Leader, Fleet Maintenance

As the Senior Leader, Fleet Maintenance, you will oversee maintenance operations across Calgary Transit bus and/or light rail vehicle (LRV) facilities, leading a team of six (6) Leader, Fleet Maintenance positions and approximately 300 bus and 130 LRV maintenance employees. Reporting to the Manager, Transit Service Vehicles, you will be accountable for daily fleet availability, the implementation of reliability-centered maintenance programs, the streamlining of cross-facility processes and procedures, and the delivery of safe, cost-effective operations. Primary duties include: Lead and oversee maintenance operations across bus and/or LRV facilities, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of fleet maintenance programs. Ensure daily fleet availability by aligning workforce, fleet capacity, and operational priorities across all maintenance facilities. Lead the implementation, sustainment, and continuous improvement of Reliability Centered Maintenance programs across the fleet. Provide leadership, direction, and performance management to a team of six (6) Leaders, Fleet Maintenance, including coaching, mentoring, and employee development. Champion workplace safety by driving the implementation and standardization of safety programs and ensuring compliance with OHS and corporate safety priorities. Develop, manage, and monitor operating and capital budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and alignment with service requirements. Contribute to the development of short- and long-term business plans for Transit Service Vehicles, aligning operational needs with strategic priorities. Address employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, investigations, and participation in grievance processes. Qualifications A degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or in a related field with at least 10 years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance, or a comparable environment and minimum 7 years of leadership experience overseeing supervisors and large unionized workforce; OR A degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline) or a related technical field with at least 8 years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance, heavy industry, or transit fleet maintenance operations and minimum 5 years of leadership experience in a unionized environment, leading large, multi-site teams. A journeyperson certificate would be considered an asset. Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation and practices. Proven success managing multi-site operations, workforce planning, and daily service delivery. Experience with leading and managing fleet maintenance operations, process improvement, and operational performance management Experience overseeing maintenance programs for complex fleets (e.g., bus, rail, or heavy equipment) Demonstrated experience in reliability centered maintenance, asset management, or similar programs. Pre-employment Requirements A security clearance will be conducted. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Workstyle This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Requires a degree in Business, Commerce, or Engineering with 8-10+ years of progressive fleet maintenance experience. Must have significant leadership experience managing large, multi-site teams within a unionized environment.
