We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Equipment Operator 4-Vactor Operator to join our team. In this role, you will operate heavy tandem axle trucks and specialized equipment used for storm and sanitary sewer cleaning, flushing, catch basin cleaning, hydro excavation, and related maintenance activities. This position is well suited to an experienced equipment operator who takes pride in safe, efficient work, has strong mechanical skills, and can confidently adapt to a variety of challenging field conditions. The role involves considerable independent judgment, with the opportunity to plan and carry out work while maintaining high standards of safety and service. Key Responsibilities Operate large tandem axle trucks and specialized auxiliary equipment for catch basin cleaning, hydro excavation, sewer flushing, and rotor rodding of storm and sanitary sewers. Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment in a variety of challenging work environments and conditions. Perform routine servicing, inspections, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance on equipment. Identify equipment issues and take appropriate action to support safe and reliable operations. Plan and organize work to ensure equipment is operated safely, effectively, and efficiently. Prepare and maintain accurate work records, forms, and related documentation. Follow oral and written instructions, plans, and sketches. Provide direction and assign work to employees performing unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties, as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Thorough knowledge of safe operating methods, practices, and procedures for heavy mobile sewer flushing, cleaning, and hydro excavation equipment. Considerable knowledge of the City’s street layout and departmental operations. Considerable knowledge of methods and practices used in the servicing, maintenance, and minor repair of heavy equipment. Knowledge of workplace safety practices and procedures related to heavy equipment operation and field work. Ability to safely and effectively operate heavy mobile sewer flushing, cleaning, and hydro excavation equipment. Ability to perform routine servicing, maintenance, and minor repairs on equipment. Ability to plan and organize work to operate equipment safely and efficiently. Ability to understand and effectively follow oral and written instructions, plans, and sketches. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate work records and forms. Ability to exercise sound judgment and adapt standard operating techniques to challenging or changing field conditions. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to perform physically demanding work requiring considerable endurance. Ability to assign and direct the work of employees performing unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties, as required. Skill in the operation of specialized heavy mobile sewer flushing, cleaning, and hydro excavation equipment. Skill in using tools required for equipment servicing, maintenance, and minor repairs. Required Licences Valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
