Are you passionate about creating digital experiences that are clear, accessible, and easy to use? As a Digital Communications Specialist at the Edmonton Public Library (EPL), you will help shape and improve the library's digital presence through website projects, user experience, digital platforms and ongoing optimization creating online experiences that support internal and external audiences. We are a collaborative, high-performing team that thrives on big ideas and creative problem-solving. Reporting to the Digital Communications Manager, you will manage EPL's websites and other digital properties, coordinate web requests and platform enhancements, and help ensure our online content is accessible, user-centred and easy to find. You will collaborate closely with fellow specialists on the Marketing & Communications team, clients across EPL, Information Technology and external vendors to turn organizational priorities into effective digital experiences with a focus on the platforms, structure, and user experience that shape how content is delivered online. Key responsibilities include: Manage day-to-day web operations across EPL.ca, EPL’s intranet and other microsites using content management systems such as WordPress, Squarespace, and Drupal. Manage web content throughout its lifecycle, including publishing, updating, and retiring content. Ensuring it is accessible, well structured, easy to navigate and aligned with EPL’s brand, editorial standards and content strategy. Improve information architecture, navigation, metadata, search engine optimization, links, redirects, and user journeys to help customers find and use information easily. Coordinate web requests, platform enhancements, releases, user acceptance testing, issue resolution and urgent updates with internal teams, Information Technology team and external vendors. Analyze website performance using accessibility tools, analytics, user feedback, and usability testing to identify barriers and recommend evidence-based improvements. Apply accessibility standards, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and conduct quality assurance testing across EPL’s digital properties. Administer and leverage Google properties, including Google Analytics 4, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads and Google Business Profile, to support performance measurement, campaign tracking, search visibility and optimization. Maintain web governance and content lifecycle practices, including content ownership, review, archiving and retirement. Lead or support digital communications projects where the website, intranet, or other microsites are key components, ensuring projects are delivered on time and meet business objectives. Represent Marketing & Communications on assigned cross-functional team and project-manage requests arising from those teams that fall within the Marketing and Communications division’s scope. Diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in digital communications, digital media, computer science, web design or development, user experience, marketing, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A minimum of three years of directly related experience managing content-intensive websites or digital platforms in a complex environment. Hands-on experience using WordPress, Squarespace, Drupal or comparable content management systems. Demonstrated knowledge of web accessibility, user experience, information architecture, Search Engine Optimization, Answer Engine Optimization and web content lifecycle practices. Experience using Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, Google Ads or comparable digital measurement and campaign tools.Working knowledge of HTML and CSS, responsive web design and cross-browser quality assurance, with familiarity with JavaScript for troubleshooting. Experience coordinating web requests, platform enhancements, releases or user acceptance testing. Experience with Figma, Looker Studio, accessibility auditing tools or heat-mapping tools is preferred. Experience with BiblioCommons is an asset. Strategic and analytical mindset: You use data, analytics and evidence to inform decisions, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement. Self-starter mentality: You look for opportunities to improve online user journeys and strengthen digital experiences, taking initiative to propose solutions and follow through. AI literacy and curiosity: You understand the evolving role of AI in digital communications and search and can use AI tools responsibly to improve content quality, SEO, efficiency and user experience while applying sound judgment and adhering to organization policies. Note: Satisfactory background screening is required for this position, which includes a Criminal Record Check/Police Information Check. Pay Band: $37.50 - $47.87 per hour* *Approximately $68,521 - $87,471 per annum based on a 35 hour work week. Shift differential may apply in accordance with the terms and conditions of the CSU 52 Collective Agreement. Note: Marketing and Communications Division employees are subject to variable hours of work as per the Collective Agreement and shift length and scheduling may vary based on operational needs.
