Role Description The Electrician role is a full-time, on-site position located in Elliot Lake, ON, supporting the City’s facilities, infrastructure, and public spaces. Day-to-day responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in municipal buildings and related assets. The Electrician will perform routine inspections, diagnose issues, and carry out troubleshooting to ensure safe and reliable operation of electrical systems. The role includes reading and interpreting electrical diagrams, adhering to applicable codes and safety standards, coordinating with other trades and city staff, and maintaining accurate records of work performed and materials used. The Electrician may also assist with upgrades, energy-efficiency initiatives, and emergency repairs as needed. Qualifications Strong foundation in electricity and electrical work, including knowledge of local electrical codes and safety practices. Experience in maintenance & repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in commercial or institutional settings. Proficient troubleshooting skills for diagnosing electrical faults and implementing effective corrective actions. Understanding of basic electrical engineering principles related to circuits, power distribution, and control systems. Relevant trade certification or license as an Electrician in Ontario (or eligibility to obtain), with a track record of hands-on field experience. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals, and to use standard electrical tools and testing equipment safely. Strong attention to detail, commitment to safety, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, contractors, and members of the public. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between city sites as required.
