Our Recreation Department is seeking two Casual Program Instructor II’s to join the team. Position Responsibilities The City of Grande Prairie is looking for a creative and enthusiastic individual to join our team for PlayCare Services at the Eastlink Centre. As a Program Instructor you will be responsible for planning and implementing age appropriate programing for children aged 0 - 5 in a warm, welcoming, play-based setting, as well as children aged 6 - 12 in a fun, active, play-based setting. You will be a part of an energetic team devoted to social, physical, emotional, intellectual, and relative development of children. You will ensure the safety of the participants while providing high quality care and supervision. Our Program Instructors will demonstrate leadership and a positive approach to play and play-based learning on a daily basis. Current CUPE Job Classification: Facilitates the delivery of a program; supervises and instructs participants; receives guidance or works in a team situation. Primary Focus: Our Program Instructors will demonstrate leadership and a positive approach to play and play-based learning on a daily basis. Successful candidates will helping to expose children to a variety of activities including cooking, athletics, arts, and more. They must be flexible and available to work evenings and weekends and have prior experience planning programs for children aged 0 -12. Qualifications The successful candidate must be 18 years of age and possess the following: Enrolled or completed post secondary education in Education, Early Childhood Education, Recreation Studies or a related field. Standard First Aid, CPR level C and AED training required prior to hire date. Intervention Check and Police Record Check (completed within 1 month of employment). At least one year of previous experience leading children's recreation and sport programming, or relevant training. A clear understanding of 'child-centered programming' and an ability to supervise and manage the safety of 30 children with the assistance of a team member. Confidence to make on-the-spot decisions, adapting quickly to group dynamics. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written with supervisors, co-workers, children and parents. Ability to present yourself in a positive and professional manner. Hours The position is casual, on-call, with availability required for evening and weekend shifts as needed. Compensation Salary of $19.67 as per the CUPE Collective Agreement. Benefits Comprehensive benefits package.
