The City of Mississauga is seeking a dynamic and collaborative professional to help implement its Retail Strategy. In this role, you will create and develop initiatives that strengthen Mississauga’s retail landscape. You will act as a relationship builder and connector, working across teams, businesses, and partners to facilitate and coordinate initiatives that support vibrant, inclusive, and resilient retail environments across the city. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who combines strong project management skills with creativity, vision, and the ability to advance placemaking/placekeeping and economic development through innovative programming.Duties and Responsibilities As a key member of the Invest Mississauga team, reporting to the Manager, Business Initiatives & Planning you will: Lead and activate the implementation of Mississauga’s Retail Strategy by transforming ideas into impactful programs and initiatives Create and develop new programs and projects that support retail growth, business attraction, and retention across the city Facilitate collaboration between internal City teams and external organizations including BIAs, businesses, developers, and community organizations Act as a relationship builder, fostering strong partnerships to advance shared goals and unlock new opportunities Coordinate and align efforts across departments and stakeholders to deliver integrated, city-wide retail initiatives Develop and execute placemaking/placekeeping and public realm initiatives, including activation strategies that bring energy and vibrancy to commercial areas Identify and advance opportunities for investment, innovation, and growth within the retail sector Monitor trends and emerging issues, and translate insights into actionable strategies and programs Develop tools, plans, and frameworks to guide the continued rollout and evolution of the Retail Strategy Support businesses and partners by navigating City processes, connecting them with services and programs, and helping resolve challenges Evaluate and track program success, using data and performance measures to continuously improve and evolve initiatives Manage and coordinate budgets, resources, and project timelines to ensure effective delivery of programs Skills and Qualifications Post-secondary education in Economic Development, Community Development, Urban Planning, or a related field 3–5 years of experience in economic development, placemaking, community development, or a related field Demonstrated ability to create, develop, and implement programs and initiatives Strong skills in facilitation, coordination, and partnership development Proven ability as a relationship builder, working effectively with diverse stakeholders including businesses, BIAs, developers, and community organizations Experience in placemaking, public space activation, and streetscape initiatives that support vibrant retail environments Knowledge of retail sector trends and local economic development context Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills Ability to think creatively while managing projects in a structured and results-oriented way A collaborative, adaptable, and proactive approach with a passion for city-building Valid G Class driver’s license Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 50.39 - $ 67.18Hours of Work: 35Work Location: Civic Centre Hybrid Workplace Organization Unit: P&B/Sector Develop and Economic PartnersDepartment/Division/Section: P&B/Planning & Building Dept , P&B/Economic Dev Office , Sector Develop and Economic PartnersNon-Union/Union: Non Union The City of Mississauga may use artificial intelligence (AI) technology in sourcing and/or screening candidates for some positions; however, it is not used in selecting final candidates. Exigences
Candidates must possess post-secondary education in Economic Development, Urban Planning, or a related field. A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in economic development or placemaking is required, along with strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
