TIME TYPE: Regular JOB DESCRIPTION : The incumbent’s mission is to provide strategic and practical legal advice to support Cogeco’s day-to-day operations and growth initiatives. This role requires a strong commercial mindset, the ability to simplify complex legal issues, and a solution-oriented approach to mitigating business risks. Key Responsibilities * Contract Negotiation and Drafting: Review, draft, and lead negotiations for a wide variety of commercial agreements, including procurement contracts, leases, network management agreements, and strategic partnerships. * Risk Management and Mitigation: Identify, assess, and minimize legal and commercial risks related to new business and marketing initiatives deployed across multiple provinces and states (Canada and the United States). * Regulatory Advice and Compliance: Guide internal teams on laws and regulations applicable to the telecommunications, broadcasting, consumer protection, and competition sectors. * External Counsel Management: Supervise and coordinate mandates entrusted to external law firms for complex litigation, cross-border transactions, or highly specialized files. * Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Manage customer complaint files and respond to claims brought before the Small Claims Division. * Legal Monitoring: Closely monitor changes in laws and regulatory frameworks that could impact the telecommunications and media industry to adapt internal policies. Profile and Qualifications * Education: Bachelor of Laws (LL.B. or B.C.L.) and a member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec (Quebec Bar) or or the Board of Notaries of Quebec. * Experience: Generally a minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in commercial law, acquired within a recognized law firm or corporate legal department. * Major Asset: Prior experience in the telecommunications, consumer protection, technology, or media sectors. * Bilingualism: Faultless proficiency in both French and English (oral and written) is essential, as the position involves daily collaboration with teams and partners outside Quebec (notably in the United States).
