Reporting to the Borrower Services Coordinator, the Student Library Assistant provides quality, front-line customer service to library users. In addition to assisting instructors and students, the Student Library Assistant helps maintain the library’s print collections, ensures a welcoming environment, and contributes to special library projects, as needed. Responsibilities Library Services Desk Circulate, renew, and place holds/recalls on library materials using the library management system. Create user accounts and issue library cards according to established guidelines. Greet patrons, explain library policies, and provide directional information. Answer basic reference inquiries and triage complex questions to reference staff. Assist with opening or closing procedures for the library facility. Refer fines, lost book fees, and account appeals to the Borrower Services Coordinator. Collections Management Sort, shelve, and organize library materials accurately according to the Library of Congress classification system. Perform routine shelf-reading (ensuring books are in correct order) and shifting of collections. Assist with collection maintenance projects, including weeding and discarding materials. Spaces, Technology & Projects Maintain library supplies and ensure public use areas, study spaces, and tech stations are clean and tidy. Provide administrative and project support to library staff as requested. Requirements CUE student currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate CUE program of study and in good standing. Strong customer service; prior experience in a customer-facing role is highly valued. Previous library experience is an asset but not required (training will be provided). Demonstrated ability to work independently, follow detailed instructions, and exercise initiative with minimal supervision. Reliability and Flexibility: Shift times vary between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Priority will be given to students with excellent prudent punctuality and availability across a variety of shifts.
