Dominion Engineering, Inc. (Dominion), an Allied Power company is seeking an engineer with 0 to 5 years of experience and a bachelor’s or master’s degree in materials engineering, including those graduating by August 2027. The candidate will be responsible for performing engineering and technical tasks, under general supervision, in support of materials engineering consulting for nuclear plant operations. Analysis areas include corrosion evaluation, fracture mechanics, microstructural characterization, as well as developing and executing lab test programs. In addition to performing various engineering analyses, the responsibilities of this position include drafting of reports documenting analyses, as well as working with other Dominion subject matter experts and engineers to produce various types of related assessment and guidance documents for industry clients. Prepares technical reports Develops high quality communication exhibits (graphs, charts, presentations) Prepares and executes laboratory test procedures Supports proposal development Competencies Clear written and verbal communication Detail-oriented and self-directed Critical thinking and problem solving Competence in core materials engineering fundamentals: Mechanics of materials Physical metallurgy Thermodynamics and transport phenomena in materials Design of experiments (including basic statistical concepts) Materials characterization Ability to develop expertise in one or more of the following: Corrosion science Fracture mechanics Material degradation (including irradiation, thermal, and corrosion effects) Metallurgical engineering Materials characterization Willing to travel up to 10-15% of the time (e.g., for Customer / industry meetings and occasional field support of products) Ability to pass a drug screening test and background security investigation Authorized to work in the United State Physical Demands Work in an office and laboratory environment Overtime and non-standard work hours as required Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment Substantial footwear must be worn. Climb stairways, ladders, and work from aerial equipment Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas and elevations Daily work expectation requires ability to perform tasks by walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, pushing, pulling, and climbing (up to 25 pounds) in position above and below head, and extended from body to complete repairs Lift, carry, position and use tools and/or equipment (weighing up to 25 lbs.)
